What is the most important position in soccer and why?

I have been playing the center forward position on the same team for years now. I
used to think I was the most valuble player just because I was one out of the three(six including midfield) who had a chance of making a goal.This season however my coach put me on defence for some reason and I was pretty upset because I thought I was doing my part as best as I can and I shouldn't be a lousy defence player. The only thing that's holding me back is that I'm finding defence to have more pressure then the forwards do? Am I perinoid or is this true?Please tell me if its the same for you?

You probably know that the object of the game is to get the soccer ball in the net using only your feet with the help of your teammates. Like alot of sports there is forward positions, midfield positions, defence positions and a goalie. The deffenders help the goalie by making sure the opponents dont score points while the forwards make the goals for the team.

Like good argentinian I am, I think that the most important position is the number 10's. This player drives the team, moves the ball and sets the plays, in offensive ofcourse! However a soccer team have 11 players! so, in teory every player is iqual important than each other! this is my opinion! good discussion topic! greetings

I must confess that I am a novice when it comes to Futbol and I love defense. I always thought a good defense wins championships. In American Football that's what happen. The team with the better defense won the Super Bowl. With that said I always thought the goal tender was the most important position on the field.so in my eyes your coach was complimenting you by putting one of his good players on defense.

I think every position is important. I play soccer. i think the goalie plays a specific role. Each player plays a specific role that they must perform in order to win. even if the forwards scores a dozen of goals, and if the defense does not play their part, and the other team scores more than a dozen, it is still a losing effort. anyhow it role has a specific function, and i believe it is important. It could have not been called a team sports, if only the forwards are important.

Well i play mostyl right mid, but I don't really know what the most important one would be. Thats a very hard question, and I think it relys on what the strong side of your team is.
