What do you do for arthritis pain?

My knees are beginning to give me trouble now. It's very painful these past couple of days to go up and down the stairs and nothing seems to relieve it. I've tried motrin, aspirin, topical creams and even my old standby, ginger. It just gets worse.
Is there anything that you do for your sore/arthritic knees that works? Any old remedies from your grandparents that do the trick?

Do you mean Icy Hot? I have a tube of that and it's not doing anything for me.

That would be one of the name brands, but there's many of them. The name of the product itself is Hot Ice. Kind of like saying take a headache pill ... there's all kinds of different brands, tylenol, ibuprofen, etc ... but they're all still pills. *shrug*
Like I said, it works for mine .. at least long enough to give me a break.

My dear I also had the same problem before...waking up as if I could not even walk... very painful. I'm 52 and just 2 years younger than you but now I was able to combat that arthritic pain by regular exercise and healthy diet. I never take any aspirin or any synthetic medicine because I know it will eventually destroy my kidney that's why most people with arthritis die of kidney problem. Now... I'm pain free and doing so well as if younger by 25 years.
What exercise did it for me? Well stretching and kicking exercises. In the morning, before standing out of my bed, with my head and body flat on the bed, I will raise my leg on after the other and make a kick as many as I could afford. Then do various stretching leg and arms exercises from 30 to 1 hour. I do that every day of my life. Aside from that I also limit my diet to veggies, fruits and sometimes fish or white mean but always more on veggies especially the green leafy ones and lots of bananas. I also take Virgin Coconut Oil 2 tablespoonful every day and Malunggay capsule. No coffee or any caffeine but plenty of water.
You've got to help yourself. Make sure you don't miss on your exercises. But avoid strenuous exercises like jogging which will hurt your knees just the stretching and kicking will do wonders for you and yes the other things I said above. Do them and see how it will work wonder for you. God bless!

Thank you for taking the time to write a very helpful reply! I usually hurt in the mornings and exercise if the last thing I want to do but I will try it. It makes a lot of sense when I think about it. I don't eat much meat, anyway, that stuff is so full of artificial crap that it's probably killing us!
I will try the morning exercises, thank you so much!

If you can't do in the morning due to pain, you can do it 4 to 3 hours before your bedtime. When you do you will also find it possible to exercise in the morning. I, in fact would sometimes exercise 20 minutes 3 hours before bedtime and in the morning 30 to one hour and my body has gotten used to it already.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and one of the things my Dr has me on for my arthritis is Ibuprophen. Ibuprophen has pain relieving qualities, as well as anti-inflammatory properties. The only thing is when you take it you have to take something with it (Maalox, whatever) so that it doesn't upset the stomache. When I find that doesn't even help some, I usually stick on this creme I get at the pharmacy. It's called theragesic, and it sure does help a lot! Before that I swear I bought every type of cream on the market...BenGay, IcyHot, and all those. The Theragesic has pain relieving qualities that sink into the skin, and you can actually wash off that smell (kind of a BenGay smell) after you've put it on. There were days I couldn't have worked without using it to help, and nobody ever knew I had it on. I love that stuff! I personally don't waste my bucks on any other because they just don't work as well as this one does.
Sometimes warmth helps more than cold. When I have it in my knees I often wear knee warmers to help keep that heat on them. It's rough to have so much pain with arthritis. If you haven't been to see a Dr about it, it might be a good idea so he can give you meds that will help. I feel for you! Living with arthritis is difficult, especially on days when it's worse than others. Hope you find some relief soon!

Thank you! I have asper-creme and use that sometimes. Ibuprophen doesn't seem to do much good for me even though I know it's an anti-inflammatory.
I plan to go to the doctor next month, maybe. I haven't seen a doctor in nearly two years, thank God, but I've moved to a new city and do need to find one in case I need one.
Thank you for such a helpful reply!

Oh, it feels so good to walk barefoot in the sand! I joined a gym this month but the exercise--bicycle, rowing machine, treadmill--leaves me in pain for days. I will have to consult the owner, a former weightlifter, and see what she suggests. Thank you!
