to a certain extent i believe it does. not so much the name making the person sense. it's more appicable to ridiculous names. you know young children can be very cruel. having a weird name will make you the target of school bullies. if a child is not strong, he/she might become depressed and anti-social. these will affect his/her academic achievements. in a paper-chase society, this will have a direct impact on the success of a person. cheers ;p

well, names wont affect one's success in life at any cost...but i think it somewhat affects the pesonality...but its only my personal idea about this...
but in case of success it will never ever affect, because SUCCESS MEANS HARDWORK....name is not a matter of discussion in case of success....

Yes I think when you grow up in a home where you have a famous last name like Hilton, or Kennedy, or whatever you happen to fall into a rich family, I believe it has a lot to do with your personality. On the way you act, and how you present your self. I think it gives you the upper hand when it comes to jobs or anything you want in life. I often wondered how I came to be so lucky to be born into such a poor family when there is so many out there that have rich mommies and daddy's.
Or people who are given nick names like Bruiser, they tend to thik they rough and tough so they act like it because of their name. I dont think ordinary people have personality problems because of their names. I am sure Mr. Hilton worked hard to get where he is at the top, but look at what it has done to his daughter Paris, she is a spoiled brat as I see it and I think most kids grow up to be spoiled when they have rich parents. Given everything they want in life having it handed to them they don't tend to have much in the way of personalities, they use their names to get what they want.

I think it does, but it also depends on the type of job your are going for. I knew a person who's name was Bambie. Her mom must have love that movie. My granddaughter's name is Karina Andy,(she has a strong personality)(and her twin brother is more of a quite type of kid.) and this woman that I used to work with told me, that she would never get a descent job because of her name. I told her she was crazy, there was nothing wrong with her name.

I think a name can affect how you feel about yourself -good or bad- but i also think that in the end you come to terms with your name or you go by something else. I look at all these movie stars and singers and some of the things they name their children and i have to wonder WHERE DID THEY COME UP WITH THAT? A lot of them isn't even names there just words strung together example--Moon Unit- would you want to be named Moon Unit? or names of food-- Apple or Coco-- Where they starving when they named their children? I could go on but i won't.
Peer pressure can shape how you see yourself and if they pick you as a target because of your name then i think it will have an impact on your personality.

I am more inclined to saying no and there are a lot of factors that contributes to success in life like education, environment, family, etc.
However, I will try to mode to the other side and give explanation.
We all heard about kids being called names. Rude names. Names that pushes them to be aloof to people, pushes them not to interact. Yes, environmental and peer interaction but still can be considered as names. Other kids used to call other kids names based on their real names. A first name of Baby Girl(my apologies for people with names like this)and is 40 years old can be funny to other people. But things like that happen. They lose credibility even without them introducing themselves. I havent even touched on last names that will tickle other people's funny bones.
I think a lot of things affect success. And names, directly or indirectly has an impact to that.
Good day!

Hello,Roshan! The name has no relation with your success or your personality.your name will be identifying you from others and many factors are responsible for achieving success in life and building a good personality but not your name.thanx.

roshand8 hi yes a name does affect personality, as I am named
Patsie, look in the dictionary the name is spelled patsy and it means someone who everyone makes a fool of, now what the heck kind of a name is that to give a girl baby who will have it the rest of her life. I was shy and picked on in school by the bullies, and it was not until I was in high school that I was not teased for my name. I still hate it and wish it had been Patricia instead.Ishould have had it changed a long time ago but
now it is on everything and would take so much doing to change it that it is not worth it.

Probably it doesn't,people who says that are in my opinion superstitious..The names are generally given by our parents,so it denotes their taste,it doesn't relates much to us.

I think so since our names has meanings and if people call you with that meaning then it really affects you. Imagine if someone is named belle which means beautiful then every time you call her that she would surely be beautiful. That's why I thi8nk it's important for us to choose names properly for our children.

hi,rroshand8. in my opinion ,a name is just a symbol, which help others remeber you.the sticking point is that good names can give us more confidence, which may have a few effects on our success!

my legal name is cheryl.
i grew up in a small town.
my father was a city policeman for 38 years.
so, my last name is very well known.
husband #1 gave me the nickname SAM.
it was during the height of the bewitched tv series.
i have long blond hair
i guess i sometimes crinkle my nose, too.
now, this nick was bestowed upon me when i was 18.
i am now 60.
i have forged my nick as my name preferance for this reason:
to me, cheryl sounded like the good, obedient, small-town girl.
the cheerleader that i was.
i don't think i had a backbone in those days.
SAM is the name i grew into.
of course, this was the beginnings of the Women's Movement
cheryl sounded so....phyllis schafly.
i wanted to be strong.
i wanted to be an independent thinker.
i wanted a backbone.
i became strong.
overcoming the wishes of husband #1
and, indeed, overcoming him, too.
