I think the book of Revelations is the hardest book in the bible to understand. I really would love to try to study it and get to understand it better.
I asked my pastor if we could study it at bible study (everybody else makes suggestions and we study what they suggest). The pastor asked the people at bible study what they thought about studing Revelations and they all said it was to hard to study. So he won't do a bible study on it.
I thought that when we accept Jesus as our Saviour, we are asked to witness for God. We are told to be ready to answer all men. I think if we are to be ready to answer all men, we must study everything. The harder something is to understand isn't a reason to ignore it. The harder it is to understand is all the more reason to try to understand it.
I know that there is so much information in the bible. And I know I will never fully understand all of it. But I think I should at least put in an effert to learn as much about every part of the bible as I can.

H sweetpeasmom, I read Revelations several times when I was younger and would try to figure out the meaning of certain things. I haven't read it now for many years and have no desire to read it again, as even the best Biblical scholars can't understand it. The teachings of Christ as found in the four gospels have become my focus in recent years. Blessings.

Revelations is a very difficult book to read and fully understand. The first thing you have to understand is that it is an interpreted dream. The things that were seen in the dream were unknown to the dreamer, and he had to do his best, with God's direction, to explain things in a way people of the world could understand. There were things of the future he had to try to explain, and most of which there weren't words created for yet. So most if it is purely symbolic and rhetoric.
Furthermore, this book is a book of prophesy, and if you recall all prophesy found in the bible are impossible to understand if you do not also study the times and culture of the people who wrote them. So do yourself a favor and read some works outside of the bible that will help you understand the people and times.
Another issue is time. God's time is not our time. There is no mathematical equation to figure it out...NO MATTER who tells you there is...there IS NOT.
Last thing to take note of is that it is not in chronological order. The rest of the bible is not in time order, so why should the last book be? Don't try to read it from beginning to end. If you have a good reference bible or book, USE it. Go back and forth reading the references for other scripture. This will take long time, possibly years, but you will gain a lot more understanding.
Best wishes.

That could probably be the reason. You should try again when you're more relaxed and don't feel that you have to rush, maybe it will be easier then.
