Keep the change!

Last night I realized I had several quarters/pennies lying around on my computer, and went to put them into a piggy bank I've had for several years. When I reached for said P.B., I couldn't believe how heavy it was! Out of curiosity, I emptied the whole thing out on my bed and counted every coin I had in there. The total, including the coins I had on my desk, amounted to nearly $50. I'm still trying to decide how to celebrate- likely I'll need to find a way to deposit it in my bank!
What do you do with your change? Do you let it build up in a P.B.? Do you find it all over the place in your house (under sofas, inside chairs, behind desks)? If you found this amount just sitting around, what would you do with it?

I always save change, I now have a coffee canister, and the last time I counted it, it was $100.00. I'm going to continue to let it build. I once save over $1000.00, in change. I cashed that in and opened a bank account with it.

Whoa! $100 in change? I can't imagine waiting until I got to a thousand dollars in change to cash it in. I think $50 in change is heavy enough to do! Still, that's quite an accomplishment, and very awesome. Thank you for sharing!

I just keep my change in my left pocket and use it as fare money. Before, I tried to save some amount every day and I would put the bigger coins in but I was never able to keep it up so I just keep it in my pocket and when it gets heavy I spend it.

Fare money? Oh, for buses and trains and such? Sounds like a good plan to me. Thanks for sharing!

good day.. . I use to have a piggy bank when I was younger. I collect coins and it turns out, that today they worth more than there monetary value. They were antiques and each one values 200 times it'd numeral. I'm glad that I kept those change.

I don't have a piggy bank but I do have few jars I keep changes in... Every morning, I empty out my pocket from previous day, or night, & put changes in these jars before starting a day... Most I've ever cashed in was $720... It went to my vacation money...

Wow! $720 all at once? That would be such a wonderful find! Good for you for having all that saved up! Thanks for sharing.

I have 2 banks for change. I seperate it into pennies and silver change.
It's for what I call my "mad money", which means that I use it when I
need to and that's it.
Saving for the future sounds crazy to me. I believe in living today
and letting our future generations learn to do the same.

To each their own! Whatever works for you is best, of course. I like the idea of the "mad" money. My family's a big fan of something called the "go to hell" fund, where if we ever have to tell someone that (an employer, a landlord, whatever), we'd have enough funds for a few months to live comfortably before finding something else to do/somewhere else to live. we save all our change in a huge glass vase i've had forever. although most of our change doesn't ever seem to make it home though. we always spend it or give it to the kids to put in their piggy banks. that is where most of it goes. i'm sure the kids have a bundle lol. i guess if we had that much we would put it in the bank to save up for vacation.

Yeah, I'm thinking it will be a nice addition going toward a vacation next summer or something. And I can relate to that- as a recent kid myself, I know I like to get all the change I can and save it up, haha! Thanks for replying.

I have a jar that I put spare change into and then I try to save it for vacation in the summer or for Christmas in the summer time. I would like to have enough this year to buy my husband a really nice gift. He always buys me nice gifts and I never seem to get him anything as nice as he buys me.

I usually save it for a rainy day. I usually have a jar or a cup or somewhere to keep the said change. I then take it to a coinstar machine. My credit union even has one now. I know they take a percentage of it, but I am usually just so happy to get my 7,9 or 11 dollars back that it is a good thing for me to do.

Hmm, do you have any idea what percentage of the coins they take for the fee? I want to use one, but if it's a ridiculous amount... Anyway, thanks for sharing!

I have a plastic change bucket in my bedroom and I throw all my lose change into it. The last time I counted it there was 30 something there in dollars. I want to let it build more then I will take it down and have it put into my 9 year old son's saveings account I opened for him a little over a year ago. I have a seperate saveings and checking account for myself as well. But I don't need the extra money so he get's it all. He loves it he tells me everything he is going to buy it's cute. But yes saveing change is a very good idea in which I do.

I somehow miscalculated my budget for the month and overpaid my credit cards. Yesterday, I was thinking heavily on how to last until the next pay day which is on the last day of the month. Tough!
I bought a full supply of food until the end of the month, so I wont have problems. However, I was thinking on my daily use - transportation, etc.
So, when I was at home, inside my room, I prepared my things for my next days work. And inside my bag, I saw a couple of bills that I just throw inside my bag or pouch. I like doing that. Hide money until such time that I dont remember them and will just see them during a clean up session in my room.
One more week until the next payday. With a full packed fridge, I know the few hundred pesos I saw will last me until the next payday!
Good day!

It's wonderful to find extra bills lying around, isn't it? It's always such a nice surprise. Glad you found them! Thanks for replying and have a great day.

I also do this, I put all the change I have at the end of the day into my plastic bottle, that I use as a sort of piggy bank. But I am kind of boring, I don't really do anything very fun with the money, most of the time I just deposit it into my savings account. But still!
