I am feeling very uncomfortable right now and I suppose any woman who has been pregnant (I'm not by the way) will know what I am talking about the pain I am feeling is just like when you are heavily pregnant and the baby has a foot caught up under the ribcage. Don't worry I will go to the doctor to get it checked out but has anyone any ideas what it could be, I have had a spleenectomy in the past which is the sort of area the pain is in. I know it is not indesgestion or anything and haven't pulled any muscles as far as I am aware, so have you experienced anything like this, what can it be as can't get to docs until at least Friday. Ellie :D

Hi ellie,
When I was pregnant with my daughter, she was turn around and her head was under my rib. it didn't bother me that much. If you rub your tummy maybe the baby will move around, or if you get on your knees and hands this could help the baby turn around. Call your nurse and ask them, I'm sure that they will tell you what else you can do.

I have had pain in that area repeated for almost eighteen years! It can be from so many things, the worst thing is when it is ignored by medical doctors who think the pain is all in your head! Acupuncture helps take the pain away, as well as an allergen diet and yoga exercises. It could be stones, and so many other things! Your gallbladder, liver or kidneys to name a few. Infections and even diarrhea and gas can cause pain too. Hopefully your doctor will help you find out.

Oh that brings back memories. I did not know that I was pregnant at seventeen until I felt the quickening and about a week or so or maybe a month, ouch! She kicked me near my rib. After a while I got used to it, and later on I got these pains of something kicking - sort of a false pregnancy but not as serious as what happened to you.

I used to feel like this when I was pregnant. I still had that same kind of pain after I had her also. It lasted for about two years and finally went away. I think our ribs get out of place sometimes and then they work themselves back into place. That may be what is causing you the pain also but if you can get it checked out, that would be the best thing to do.

Gosh, ellie333, I have not had a pain quite like that. I understand there's a condition called "pleurisy" that causes quite a bit of pain in the lung/rib cage area. I do not think it is a serious condition, though. Plus, I have no medical training so I have no idea actually what the problem might be.
Hang in there. I am thinking of you. Do take care.

Ellie333,
I hope it's just a sore muscle or something like that. Glad the pain has subsided. That's a good sign. Rest and take care.

Hi Littleowl, you do make me laugh at times, it is Tamara who has a hurt foot mine was a pain under the ribs. I went to the doctors and I have come out in horrible chicken pox like spots now but they said it was an allergy, they checked pancreas, lungs, tummy, kidneys all fine so a mystery really, still a bit uncomforatble so not on here as much as mo as more comfortable laying or upright. Huggles Ellie :D

Recently my cousin was having similar kind of pain in that region. She is close to a hypochondriac. Went to the doctor, got all relevant (and irrelevant) tests done. She even went for ECG and Echocardiogram for she thought she was having a heart attack!!!
At the end of it all things were perfectly okay.
Just wanted to share this with you.
HUggles.

Awww, I hope the pain goes away soon. I know how painful that can be. I have experienced something like that when I WAS pregnant. The bet advice is for you to see your doctor the soonest. I hope it is nothing serious. And be very observant about whatever you feel so that you can tell the doctor right away. Hugs to you!

My babies were weird. The never laid in the right way to get their feet under my ribs so I have no idea what that feels like but I hear it hurts....A LOT.
My only thought for you is maybe you ribs got a little out of place. Mine pop back and forth in an odd way and sometimes they get stuck. It feels like something is up under there and then subsides to an ache. I guess you'll find out either way when you get to the doctor!

ellie333 hi Did you ever have chicken pox? because if you did and you are having a weird pain in your rib cage you might be having the first indication of shingles.I had an unexplained pain in my l
left side for a week before brokeout, in fact my doctor diagnosed it as my diverticulitis acting up I finally had to go to the er when I broke out. the er doctor said I have good news and bad news
and you dont have diverticulitis but you do have shingles. then he gave me a prescription for aclyovir and I was on that up until a few days ago now I am on a medicine to stop nerve pain. I am not saying that is what you have but it is one possiblilty.

IS that pain from shingles only on the left side? I did end up getting that after my oldest four children had the chickenpox! Nobody ever told me that was what the pain was from, although I knew someone who thought he got the shingles from being near me and he said the pain was awful! A doctor actually told him that he could get shingles from a pregnant woman who also had shingles, just by being near me.

Hi Hatley, I have had chicken pox yes and some scare to prove it LOL. It is my left side too that the pain is, It is more achey this morning rather than the pain I had last night. When I go to the docs I will get that checked though as haven't been 100% and the kids at school have recently had chicken pox going round so it is a possibilty. I do hope not though as I know have much you have been suffering with it but the pain does seem pain at night and an ached during the day so more prominent when tired. Ellie :D

shouldnt be putting off goin to the docs just cause it isnt convenenient at the moment.. bet a hospital stay would be even more inconveniencing wouldnt it? specially where youve had surgery in the area yer experiencing the pain.. call today, please ..;nod;..
and no.. other than my daughters foot getting caught in my ribs and staying there for 4 1/2 months.. i havent experienced it. other than the nerve damage caused by said little piggies that now makes the string of nerves along my ribcage spasm from time to time.

Ok Honey I think this stems from that affair you had with that alien..
You are most likely ready to have this monster pop through to the outside world!
Seriously get to a doc soon..I'll be worried for you til I hear good news.

Hi Ellie, I hope you are ok and not in too much pain (I know what the foot feels like - I have has 2 kids!!) Ummm my brother in law has gall stones (he gets his gall bladder out next month) and I know when he gets pain it is in under the ribs...
I hope for you it is nothing too serious and that the pain has gone away now - but make sure you still get it checked out... just so you know what it was!!

You may have pulled the cartilage on one of your ribs. I did it once, and it was very, very painful while it healed, which took quite a few weeks. It can be caused by something as simple as reaching up or coughing. I did mine because I fell forward off a T-Bar when skiing and winded myself, and then had a cough which pushed it apart. I was scared until I found out what it was. Get it checked out, if you haven't already done so, and I hope you feel better very soon.

Hi Tamara I am fine but it is extremely uncomfortable and my best way of describing was the foot under the ribcage bit. I live in a rural area and getting an appointment is viturally impossible unless it really is an emergency. I will go to the local A&E if it does get worse though as I have a very high pain threshold and this one hurts. I hope your toe is not throbbing as much and that your are putting your feet up, I need to go to bed in a min so perhaps laying flat will help. Thanks for your concern. Huggles. Ellie :D
