Does anyone know of any websites that specialize in Heavy Metal music items? I'm mainly interested in finding CD's by bands that came out years ago but maybe weren't around for long, and I need a website(if one exists) that makes it easier to browse for bands that I don't remember the names of. Also, if they sell heavy metal apparel and memorabilia, that would be a plus. Thanx.

I listen to a wide range of musical genres, and I've recently gotten hooked on Pandora Radio at http://pandora.com. You can find all kinds of subgenres of metal music, some I didn't even know existed. Apparently there's something called Math Metal. It's very interesting. Anyway, I like it. There's also Lastfm.com, but I haven't really navigated their website too much to know what kind of a metal selection they have. Anyway, internet radio freakin rocks!

Folk metal, hunh? Certainly sounds like something I'd like. Have you heard of Meshuggah (I hope I'm not butchering the spelling)? Well, apparently they are considered 'math metal' by some critics. I'm not really sure how to describe it. It's got complex rhythms, somewhat based in jazz, but not at all jazz. Does that help? Try looking it up on wikipedia. I think I will right now, as a matter of fact. Here's the url: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Math_metal Here's some of what the site has to offer: "Technical metal (aka tech/math metal) is a cross-genre reference to heavy metal that uses changeable, sometimes jazz-like time signatures and drum patterns and often dissonant or atonal guitar riffs. Some other examples include: Watchtower, Coroner, and Sadus." Apparently, it also combines math rock with metal. There's a link to define math rock, too, as "a rhythmically complex, guitar-based style of experimental rock music that emerged in the late 1980's."This is all very interesting, if you ask me.

'math metal'? i haven't even heard of this! anyway you should check out Finntroll especially the Nattfodd album if they have it there. it's like black metal meets finnish polka, often referred to as 'folk metal'. it's some pretty f**king catchy sh*t. i love it. however i'm suspicious of this 'math metal'. i don't know if i like the idea of math becoming metal. ;)

cmdistro.com carries band cds from all metal genre's including dvd's, vinyl, shirt's, watches, and anything else the band might be selling. their prices are very reasonable too. jsrdirect.com has shirts, hoodies and other merch from a ton of metal acts. you can also check out 'genxgear' on ebay for liscensed metal band shirts. i've personally dealt with all these sites and they're great.

also if you go to wikipedia.com and type in 'list of heavy metal bands' in their search engine, you can view an alphabetized list all metal bands with added links to view any and all sub-genres of metal. whatever bands you've forgotten about will be on these lists along with a couple hundred more. after you find the ones you've been looking for, it should make it alot easier for you to navigate the store sites that i already mentioned. happy hunting!
