Insurance Companies Denying Claims to the Poor

Just like in the movies( Erin Brokovich, and The Man Who Sued God) for example, I feel that insurance companies go out of their way to deny payments to genuine claims for say, personal injury. They lose the file, dont respond, send to other departmentsd , threaten, harass and hire investigators to make people give up making the claim. Has this happened to anyone you know ???
