How Old Were You When You Started Your Menstral Cycle?

I started my menstral cycle when I was only 9 years old. My mother said she started hers at a young age too. My daughter is 7 years old and I fear that she might start young too. The other day she asked me what a "period" was because she had heard of some girls in a couple grades ahead of her had "periods" and she didn't know what that meant. I explained it to her and I hope she understood, but it did get me wondering if she will start early like I did. Did anyone else start theirs early? How old were you when you started yours?

I was 12, and on a snow trip, not fun. My mom had not talked to me about it, so I had no idea what to do. If you think she may start young at least let her know what it is so it does not freak her out.
PS If she does want to use tampons, please make sure to tell her to use vasaline if she is "testing" it. My mother did not tell me but told me how to use it so I would know the next time... lets just say VERY painful!

Yes, I do want her to know how to use tampons. My mom never told me about tampons, I guess she was uncomfortable about telling a 9 year old about that. I started using tampons when I was an adult and I find them so much better than pads. Happy MyLotting!

I was 12 years old when I started. I can't imagine being only 9 years old and starting.. WOW that's young. I would imagine at 9 years old a girl could be pretty scared if they didn't know what was going on.
I think it's great that you are explaining this to your daughter at so young an age. These days, it's never too young to explain certain things to children. They grow up so fast these days. Plus the fact that you started at 9, you never know when it might happen to her.

I started mine while on summer break. I was fixing to go into 4th grade. I'm glad I didn't start while at school, I probably wouldn't have known what to do.
