I am a teacher and I have found that with Poe students either love him or hate him. There is no in between. I love Poe. His style of writing is captivating and has me in it's grasp the entire time I am reading. I love to teach Poe, too.

I suppose it's a lot of things as to why I love him. I think his stories are really ...haunting, you know? Jaw dropping types of stories that you just don't come across very often. I think his use of words and how he puts things is really poetic and beautiful.

He just has a way of writing that creeps you out but makes you want to keep reading. Have you ever studied him as a person? Wow, messed up life. He had 3 or 4 women close to him die of tuberculosis. This is one of the theories for why he writes about sickness so much. If you like him, I just started reading a series of books by Tess Gerritsen that you would love. They are crime novels, but she writes a lot like Poe and I have found I cannot put her books down

I love that Edgar Allen Poe is not like the other poets and writers. He stands out when you like of literature because he doesn't follow the norms.

And I love him too! I love his prose, I love his poetry, the imageries and the emotions that his works evoke, the rhythm and cadence of his verses... You're lucky you're in constant touch with him for being a teacher. Never a dull moment with Edgar Allan Poe.

I commend Poe for his attempt to overcome his own fears through his writing and his ability to make those fears appear as real to others.

I first got into Poe when I was younger, by reading The Black Cat. Then, listening and reading some of my biggest idols biographies, they say Poe has something to inspire you. And then I just got one compilation of his works and I'm reading, in portuguese. I want to read the originals some day. I just love his coldness and morbid atmosphere he gives sometimes, and those descriptions that goes beyond your mind. He rocks!
