Most cats are not dangerous. The thing one must understand about cats is that they play when they want to play and they are eager to tell you when they have had enough playtime as yours did. But a cat who is given love from a human will return it just as well. We have one house cat and 12 barn cats. We give them all attention as they want it. Whenever we go out to the barn, we stop to give all of those around us some attention. They usually all come running out and if we sit outside by the barn, then they are around us all of the tiime.

I do not think cats are dangerous! You can get them declawed and then you will not get scratched. Mine is about to have babies and is a little miserable right now but not mean!

Please don't suggest getting a cat declawed. The procedure removes the entire first joint of the cat's toe. It would be the same as cutting off your fingers at the first knuckle. It is very painful and can make a cat bite since it can't use it's claws. Cats, as you say, are not at all dangerous. But they are animals and need to be respected as such.

My cat is declawed and they gave her pain meds before they took her claws out!The next day she was playing like she always does. She does not bite! I do not feel I disrespected her by doing this. I am very good to my cat.

The problem with declawing is that if the cat had to someday fend for its sel,f it would not be able to protect its self as well.

Cats are not as dangerous as dogs ^_^ What a cat can do to us is just to scratch us with their claws and that's it, we will only suffer superficial wounds.. UNlike dogs, once they are provoked, they will bite and their bites can be fatal, and rabbies is sure to infect us if we dun get it trated immediately.. But still, i will prefer dogs over cats because they can more fun and playful ^_^ And they know their master, as well as who treat them nice and who doesn't ^_^

First you have a point that wounds from a dog mauling can be fatal... That said, cats while not as dangerous as dogs can be, they can do much more then superficial wounds and are just as subject to rabies as dogs. When I was 4 years old my parents had a big white cat named Snowy. He was my best friend and playmate while my brothers were all in school. One night he got his paw caught in the mesh of my playpen. My dad and a neighbor tried to free him but he was so scared that he went bizerk and clawed up both my dad and the neighbor so bad they had to go to the hospital for about 30 stiches. If you ever have to rescue a cat from such a situation best put on heavy long sleeve jacket and leather gloves. Any animal when it is injured, trapped, or feels threatened can be dangerous. Kittens can get feisty in playing. Cats are predators by nature and kittens can get this surge of fighting instinct as they grow... A stern NO! and leaving the kitten alone for a short while, kinda of a time out, will teach it that it is not OK to be so feisty with you. Getting cats spayed or neutered as soon as they are old enough helps tone done that fighting instinct.

Something must have spooked the little kitty or it may have been abused before and got scared. I have never had a problem with a cat. We have had many, many cats. They all have diffrent personalities and love in diffrent ways. Some can be very skiddish while some so layed back nothing will make them jump, but dangerous. Absolutely not. Right now We have two cats and my dad has 3 cats. At one time we had five cats and four dogs. When I think back that was a bit much but would have never admmitted to it at the time. I have loved all my animals and all are special.

I don't think that cats are that dagerous. There can be problems (my cat would scratch or bite me if I played with it wrong). People just need to be careful around animals. If a certain action causes the cat to scratch, try to avoid that particular action.

Did that kitten scratch you so badly you had to go to the hospital? Nino has sent me and the roomie to the hospital 3 times - twice for me and once for her - he's still with us at 15. Mitten, my outside cat, sent me to the hospital back in March when she chewed my finger - but she's still out there - after spending a week at the pound for rabies observation. I have 26 cats, I found homes for 16 cats last year, I love my cats, and I have my Taj sitting at my feet right now. I will tell you that cats are not dangerous, pretty much if you get hurt, you probably did something to provoke the cat into hurting you - I know I did.

Well, I have about 20 or so cats. From tomcats to fullbreeds. I have a Himalayan in the house - a black smoke persian and some "muts". I love them ALL! And all the strays come here also. As far as danger goes- take a good look at the world- not being cliche- but in ALL breeds of EVERYTHING- from people all the way down, there are NICE ones and there are BRUTALLY VISCIOUS ones. We really do have to pick and choose carefully- our friends as well as our pets! If you have a "dangerous" cat then train him. I train mine with a fly swatter. I do NOT hurt them, but, when they are young up and say...get on the table or rip something up they get swatted right between the eyes. It doesn't hurt but it's really irritating and they DO learn. Use a rolled up paper or something that gets the point across without the pain or abuse. And remember some have distemper and some are just sick- so really it IS like the rest of the world. We are ALL different, and unfortunately not all so kind.

Cats are definitely not dangerous. How could one scratch make all cats dangerous, I will tell you one thing a lot of cats especially mine are terrified of children. Children are very rough at times without knowing it, touch areas in the cats body such as the stomach which makes them (the cat) feel defensive and they might scratch. I have told numerous children DO NOT touch my cats and the first thing they do is chase them around, one day poking at one with an umbrella, until she stopped and yes, she scratched this child in the face. I can also tell you this same cat came to me with a broken rib, broken leg, and broken toe, because she at 9 weeks old scratched a 2 year old who was being rough and the mother stomped on the kitten with high heeled shoes. Lizzie is 16 now and try to avoid all children but lots of them do not listen to me and wind up getting scratched because they chased her and cornered her making her defensive. As an adult you would not do these things of course and if you ever do get a kitten be gentle with it, teach it to be gentle with you, and do not let children get away with hurting it. By all means do not declaw that is another form of cruelity and it is extremely painfull to your kitten. Get a book on how cats use their claws and you might understand them a bit more. I don't want to upset the dog lovers in this world, but I would be more prone to be afraid of some of the dogs in the world with bad owners. Try going to the S.P.C.A. and petting the stray cats and kittens and I think you will soon change your mind about them being dangerous. ceciliah

I have never found them to be dangerous. They will retract their claws when they're playing and only bring them out if they feel threatened. Perhaps it misunderstood your intentions? Cats are usually only dangerous to mice and other pests!

cats are more prone to that outburst than dogs, the only problem with pets dogs if they do bite is youll get wounded more severely, ive no problems with our dog on that kind of behaviour, a cats attack is not that severe compare to dogs but not if it has rabies, since cats are prone to that kind of thing you should always vacinnate them first before having them as a pet, same with dogs also, but cats attack their owners more than dogs

Personaly I don't feel that cats are dangerous. I guess in any situation any pet can be dangerous in some way. Cats just like to let you know who's boss...lol. I have had several cats over the years and none of them has every hurt me in any way. Right now I have 2 cats and they both like to play and sleep with me. Every night when I go to bed they follow me into the bedroom and hope right up on the bed with me, get snuggled right close to me and fall asleep. So I guess that you could say that I spend a lot of time with my cats.

Cats are not very dangerous. It is the way you train them which make them dangerous. These cats are domestic and playful. Only the wildlife cats are dangerous.

they arent any more dangerous than any other living creature. this was a kitten that scratched you.. ie a BABY, and didnt fully grasp what they were doing. maybe you rolled it over in some way they were scared or uncomfortable.. maybe it didnt wish to be triffled with at that moment.. maybe it was just being playful and batting at you and had its claws extended.. at present time i have three cats (and a dog) but over my life ive had countless, and never had any problems with them whatsoever in them being mean or vicious without cause. one of the ones we have now has been my daughters best friend since she was merely 1 year old, and is probably the most lovingly devoted, feircely protective and gentle creature ive ever had the pleasure of knowing. if a human toddler pulled yer hair or pinched you.. would you then consider them dangerous things and be frightened of them as well?

Cats are not dangerous at all. When you play with a cat, you have to watch it for signs of discontent. It can be over stimulated. If you see the tip if its tail moving, stop playing with it; it has had enough. The same is true when you are petting it. I have 4 cats; they are my best friends. They come when called and purr in my lap. No dog can do that.

How dangerous can a 12-16 pound creature be? I've had a variety of different types of cats. Most of them wouldn't consider trying to injure something that out masses them 10 to 1. Heck, most of them were very gentle and sweet. I had one who use to play rough. Play was her chewing on my hand while I tugged my hand away. That would go on for a while until I grabbed her face. They she wasn't playing any more and was trying to open up my forearm with her back claws. I had another who I called Psycho Kitty. She was very sweet until she just snapped and laid into you with her teeth or claws. Then she'd run away. Most of them, however, wouldn't think of attacking.

We have 6 cats on the ranch right now. We have always had cats, they are very useful as well as being great friends. Like all animals, cats have to be treated with respect, a kitten is very active and if you watch a group of them you will understand that they play rough. Kittens that are handled gently and allowed to be the boss when it comes to holding or restraining, become wonderful cats, Cats that are strong armed tend to panic and become very afraid of humans. Wouldn't you be? Think of how much bigger you are, even a child is scary to a cat. If you want a cat or are near a cat let love be you guide and place yourself in the cat's place. LOL
