I use Norton and I use Stopzilla as my spyware adware blocker...i pay for both, but ever sinec i started using the two together, my puter has worked like a charm and its well worth the money. I have tried several free ones that people swear by and never had any luck with them, so im ok paying to keep myself protected.

According to my knowledge, I believe that AVG has gone below par. and now it has become a commercial version package. that makes it unusable. I have used avast, calmwin, kaspersky and others but they have been less effective. especially when it comes to spyware detection. before i go to that, there is a point to mention. each anti-virus software have their own description of a virus and a separate name for the virus. this implies that a virus (say AAA) which is named in the virus list of one anti-virus is in the spyware or trojan list of another. so that 2nd firm's anti-virus will not detect that AAA. thats why the customers are running into problem and have to format the system every now and then.
to be more frank, today the problem is not with the dominant viruses. but the problem is with the spywares or trojans that get into the syetem thru the pen drives and internet. thats where the problem comes.
so to keep your system safe, have a good anti-spyware and a good anti-virus. i feel that McAfee is good and it has new options which can prevent creation of exe files in Windows directory, prevent modification of registry and startup file list. this can prevent the spread of virus even in case the virus gets into the system. it also can prevent the unauthorized port access. this with a good spyware software should solve most of the problems.
I also heard that the present Norton anti-virus is built with the capability to prevent newer viruses. that is the characteristics of viruses are used to detect the new virus which might not be in their list. thus securing your system even against unforeseen threats.
So with technology growing i feel we can become more secure against virus threats.

I use Kaspersky. I've been using it for 3 or 4 years now and am very satisfied with it since I've never had any sort of malware problems since I started using it. Free antivirus programs are okay, I guess, but you don't really expect to get better quality with zero cash outflow, right?

I read a magazine featuring an article on anti virus software ratings. It seems Kapersky tops it all. I used to use Kapersky until it ask for the license key. After that I switched to AVG.
