which do you think is worse...?

This topic hit me because this is something that happened to me! My first child was due to be born in July and my grandfather passed away in June just a matter or a couple weeks for seeing his first great-grandchild. We already had a name for my son but we added the name 'Eli' as another middle name which was his great grandfather's. My son has only heard stories and seen pictures of this man but I will always remember the long walks in the woods and the time we share together. I think it would be far worse to miss out on someone you knew even for a little while. Otherwise they are nothing but a photograph and someone else's memories shared.

I have to go for the second one. I would much rather never know someone than to know them and then lose them.
