Hi. I am Bob and I am a pyromaniac. I love fire of all sorts and always have since I can recall. Most weekends except in the winter I build a bonfire to sit and enjoy watching the flames dance their dance of love. I love hearing the crackling of the wood as it burns away as well. I love smelling the various woods burn as well. So do you love bonfires? Do you have them often? What is your favorite thing about bonfires?

i saw a bonfire on tv in a movie, does that count? i have seen fire up close. in michigan where i used to live we'd burn our trash. it was the only way to get rid of it. there wasn't a law against it and many people did it. it was my chore to take out the trash and burn it, i had to stay with it until it was out. i didn't mind it and found it interesting to watch the fire. i thot the flames were interesting the way they moved around what they were consuming. later on their came a law that banned burning outside. but my niece who lives in arkansas burns their trash. they have no law banning it where they live.

Yes that counts. Funny thing here in Minnesota. A local TV network each year during the Christmas season has a show they call "YULE LOG". The show has a log burning with holiday music playing for a few weeks long. Boring but I like the music though.

I'll have to join your program Bob, I love bonfires. In fact, we have no TV at the cottage, and prefer to watch the fireplace. It's magical, and I really enjoy it.

Hi Grandpa B,
I love also bonfire but we don't have the regular schedule for that..It's been awhile we have made it..LOL!
What I like about it is the color and the shapes I will see and all I want is just to stare on it and think nothing! LOL!
My way of relaxation of mind!

We used to go camping a lot and would build camp fires for cooking and sitting around at night time. I guess you can call a camp fire a bonfire since it would be built up bigger at night after using it for cooking. The kids would love to roast marshmallows and we would also roast weiners for supper too. We had the best place to do all of this. My father in law lived on the river so we could have a bonfire, have our tent to sleep in and still have indoor plumbing. hahaha
We had a lot of mesquite to burn there since there were so many mesquite trees in this area.

I love to sit and watch a campfire. But I wouldn't call myself a pyromaniac. I call my youngest son one though! He loves to play with fire. I just like to watch it from afar. I love to see the dark orange embers near the bottom. That's my favorite thing to look at.
But where I live, I cannot make a fire in my yard. First of all, I don't think I'm allowed since it's actually in the city, even though I live in woodsy area.
But also, my neighbor has asthma and smoke bothers her so I refrain from it knowing how I felt when another neighbor had a fire right behind my bedroom window and I woke up and couldn't breathe and I thought my house was on fire!

Cool deal. I've shoveled snow to clear the pit for a fire before. Enjoy.

I love bonfire too. Every evening when the weather is good I will start my bonfires around the compound. The smell of the dried woods and leaves make the atmosphere very pleasant. Bonfires are quite dangerous during hot season. I started to burn the dried out branches and leaves at the back of my house when the light breeze quickly help to spread the fire to a bigger area and the fire spread so fast that I have to summon my neighbor to help carry pails of water to put off the spreading fire. I did not manage to save some of my fruit trees.

I am simply terrified of fire. I guess it could be because I accidentally set the bathroom on fire once. It was an old-fashioned bathroom with a giant iron pot in which we used to heat water for the entire family to take bath. And heating the water was my job. Firewood and sticks, along with dried leaves were stacked in one corner, and I would feed it into the fireplace. The entire stack went up in flames once, and I am glad I escaped alive. Frankly, I am terrified of fire and would steer clear of it.
Cheers and happy mylotting

I love them!! I love to sit and stare into the flames and it's especially beautiful when the big stuff is gone and I can look at the red-hot logs with those colors constantly changing. Sometimes it's almost as if it has faces in there, a living thing. Ironic how something so beautiful can be so deadly.
I love the smell of a campfire/bonfire. I love smelling it on my clothing afterward, there's nothing like it!

Not same here! I don't like bonfires because I don't want the smoke and the heat coming near my face. They are not good for my skin. Sorry, I am so vain! But you know during 'retreats', there are special nights when all participants will really have to build bonfire and do some healthy sharing and discussions but I would always make it a point to sit far from the bonfire.
One thing more, I hate seeing big fire because it reminds me of hell and the horrible fate of those people going to that place.

My husband loves fires, too! We're not really allowed to have backyard fires anymore (most of the year we have a total fire ban, due to bushfire danger) - but my husband sneaks a couple of garden waste fires in during winter - he loves standing out there in the warm, throwing things on! I think there's a secret pyromaniac inside every lad ...

Hi Bob, I also love fires as well and enjoy spending hours in front of a bon fire or having a bbq with the propane turned way up so that instead of cooking I am actually using the fire to cook with, dont get me wrong though, I do not burn it, lol, I just find having a bbq without flame is nothing more than cooking on an oven out doors.

We have been building bonfires in our large charcoal grill to toast marshmallows, and make smores. The kids have been having a ball doing this, and so have I. It is good bonding time for us, and as you said the flames are beautiful.

I like fire. I have thought about getting a firepit for the deck. We have all kinds of wood to burn around here. Two of my previous houses had fireplaces, so I do like fire. Right now I only have a fake woodstove which looks like it's burning logs and throws some heat, but mostly it's ornamental. There are some people in our development that have an outside fire and sit around it alot in the summer.

I do not like fire at all, I have been scared of it ever since I burnt my house down and nearly me and my son in it. I tend to steer away from anything to do with fire now!!

Greetings Grandpa Bob. how did you know you were a pyromaniac? Well I like seeing things burn to which is weird because when I was still young we were victims of a fire and our house and most of our belongings got burned. A couple of years back 3 fires threaten our home once again but instead of being paralyzed with fear I was paralyzed by awe. Luckily our home didn't get burned down this time (and I'm not hoping that it will). I specially love it when I scratch a match stick and the flame burns out to the end almost burning my finger. Am I a pyromaniac too? Back to your post I love bonfires, specially when I'm with friends. I love how it lights up the darkness, but my most favorite thing is the cookouts and all the good stories that is sure to accompany a good bonfire.
