As you all know, I completed my citizen ship interview last week. But this discussion is about the interview of my friend. She is from vietnam and she hardly speaks English. This was her second interview. In her first interview she failed because of lack of English speaking. This time she worked hard and came to my house to read history and civics. I helped a little with some words like congress, constitution, amendments. I gave her training for more than 10 days. she had her interview yesterday and she passed this time. She is very very happy and me too!!

Congratulations to you both That was very nice of you to help your friend like that and I am glad it worked for her
I wish they would change those interview things. Years ago I tried to help a co-worker study for those things and I was amazed at how stupid I really was and I have lived here all my life
Wonder why they think people need to know that stuff?

Knowing a little bit of English is understandable. I would not expect to become a citizen of another country if I didn't at least understand a little of their language It's all that stuff about the government that gets me, stuff we learned in school and remembered long enough to pass the class and then forgot

Congratulations to you and your friend for becoming citizens of the united states of america. I am very happy that you both passed your exams! I know that those tests are hard, as we learned about the content in school!

Congratulations to both of you! It's important to know the language of the country you're a citizen of, as well as knowing the history, civic and political basics. I would have to study to pass a citizenship interview because I've forgotten some of what I learned years ago, but as a citizen of the US, some of it is so familiar I don't even think about it.

I am very very happy that she passed her interview this time. Lack of English can be a ard thing to overcome in a hurry, bu with the right friends and the right teaching it's not usually a problem. Good for you for helping your riend out the way you did.

Congratulations to you both.
May I ask how many years you had to reside in USA before applying for citizenship? It's been two years for my son and I and we both have permanent resident status. I think we may be here for the long haul so was just wondering who many years before we can apply. Thanks.

Congrats to both you and your friend! It sounds like your friend (and you!) is very determined and intelligent to pick up enough in 10 days to pass. You also sound like a great friend to help her out.
Again, congrats and best wishes!
