You really need evaluate your space and your time and decide what would work best for you. If you are in an apartment dogs are not usually the best for that type situation as they may bark and disturb the neighbors. They aslo like to have room to run and play. If you have a house or a bigger space a dog is OK. Dogs need someone with time to train them, and to spend time with them. Cats are more independent and dont need as much care.

I have two cats and they are my life. cat is timid and will hide somewhere when it sees some new comer. But dog will protect you by barking and scaring outsiders and even pouncing on them. Cats are like small children, like to be fondled and you can get a satisfaction of spending time with small children. They love you so much and their way of expressing love is different. They move very closer to your legs and you cannot walk freely. They scratch their face with your leg or hand. When you go out, they miss you a lot. When you call up from outside, it is an interesting scene to see how they react to that phone call, they will hug the phone, kiss the phone and will search the phone to know where you are. My preference is cat.

You have already got few interesting suggestion and I'll obviously suggest going with cats - much more easy to manage as a pet. Since you do not have any prior experience, if you go with a dog - you have to learn a lot about taking care of it. Also you need to invest more time for dogs. After all, it is your graceful company that will make your pet happy.

I love both,in fact in an animal lover full stop,so maybe im not the person to ask..a dog is as good if not better than a human,they feel for you,listen to you,talk to you..and you can ake trhem out walking...a cat is much more independant,but still a good friend,they are good company and need less maintenance than a dog..

It also depends where you live. if you live in the city, you would have to walk a dog, as if you had a cat it would be litter trained.

Cats are difinatly cleaner but don't like to be cuddled or fussed as much as a dog, you only need to bath a cat every 6 months, unless they get themselves into a messy accident, what are common with dogs. Dogs need to be walked, cats go where they want and are less obediant. You are more likely to be scratched by a do than bitten by a dog.

see if you want your home to be clean have cats but if you want to safeguard your home best buy is Labrador this is the best breed and the second one is German shepherd .

Depends how much time you would like to spend with your animal. A dog needs more time to take care about.
