Did you have the freedom to choose your career?

Hi friends, I had all the freedom to choose my career and field I wanted to specialize. Initially I had chosen science but didn’t do well as I found mathematics very tuff. Then I changed my subject to arts and did majors in English. I did not have any sort of inhibitions from my parents. How about you did you have all the freedom to choose your career? Or you had to do what your parents wanted?

While I think my parents wouldn't be so happy if I had chosen certain majors (say English or theater arts), it doesn't really matter in my case since I happen to like a career they approve of (intending on majoring in computer science). However, if I did enjoy those subjects and had wanted to major related to them, I would be slightly annoyed if my parents came in and tried to decide for me. I don't believe that they have the right to decide everything in my life for me. If I fall due to my major choice, then I fall at my own discretion, not theirs.

I did have the freedom to choose. I like you started in one area of study and then changed. But my change was due more for the fact that what I really wanted to do didn't quite match what I wanted to get paid. So I changed my direction of studies to business administration which was pretty generic. My original choice was social work and that just didn't pay any money. So I found something in business that allowed me to still help those that I wanted to help and still get paid a nice salary. Throughout the years I have kind of tailor made my career to get both aspects. Now I own my company and I provide the services that I always wanted to and I get to make the difference in peoples lives that I wanted to and would do my job for free if I had to.

In that sense I am the driver of my desires. I did What I wished to do. Regarding career, I got the jobs on the related fields of my study and interest and am enjoying doing it. The great thing with my parents is they never come in between my decisions, whatever it is, including life. And when there was a wrong decision from my part and was almost sure to meet the failure, they supported me. I think, all these depends on you also. From the childhood, parents can assess, which child is self sufficient and who can go alone in life and who needs support. You know it is a kind of parenting they do in controlling or not controlling. Some obsessed selfish parents really need behavioral therapy.

well i make my own decisions and i wouldn't want anyone to get in the way of my decision making. i think any parent who is trying to make decisions for the children regarding career choice has no idea the difficulty that they are putting on their children. i mean im at university now and i cannot see myself studying any subject apart from computer science or mathematics.

I don't have all the say in my life. Just like many weeks ago, we senior three students are busy choosing our college. I think over and over and discuss with my friends and teachers. Later my parents say to me they have friends in another school, their friends say it is a good school and can help me do well in the school. But actually I don't want my parents do so many things for me and I don't really like to go to the school. But the problem is I know what my parents do for me is their love for me ... I couldn't refuse. but I feel confused, too

I actually did having supportive parents. I believe that a person can do best in something that he/she likes. More often than not, it'll be hard to focus to something you're not interested with.

I had the freedom to choose my own career and what I wanted to do. My parents were very supportive in what ever I decieded to do in career choice makeing wich I was glad for they wanted me to be happy with what I wanted and chose to do. I think it should be one's choice in which their career should be for it's them doing it not anybody else.

good day..Yes I did. I went to pre-med and med proper obtaining my medical degree with the support of my family. I had the principle of carefully choosing what I want in a career then devoting my time finishing it.

My mother did not try to choose what my career would be but she also did not give me the support and guidance for college. I am still now at the age of 31 working on my bachelors. Better late than never I guess. I also have my own children and I guess because of how lax my mother was, I tend to be very firm as to going to college right after high school, for them.

I had the freedom to choose my own career, but I was not really sure what I wanted to do and so my parents just helped me a little bit. I was a straight A student at school, but in the last two years of school I just let it all go and could not be bothered, and that was it I came out of school with nothing.

I have always believed that everyone has the freedom to choose their career. The career that one should choose should be something that we really would like to be doing. But of course there are some things that we should consider in choosing a career. Like financing which is very important. You can't practice medicine if you don't have plenty of money. Sometimes, parents would like us to study for something that we don't like. If that is a situation that one is in, then they should explain to the parents why you don't like it and why you chose a different field. Ultimately
