Have you ever experienced while you're cooking then something got your attention, like the phone rang, or someone sent an SMS to you and you have to answer it? Then you got engrossed with what caught your attention. And suddenly, you smell something different. You see smoke around the kitchen. And you realized that something is burning. Oh, you forgot that you were cooking. LOL. I haven't experienced that but my husband who is working abroad did. It is our habit to talk over at Skype when he comes home. We were talking and at the same time he's cooking. He usually place his laptop on the dining table. One time, while we were both online, I called him and we were talking for minutes then suddenly, he ran towards the kitchen. Oh I saw him waving his short over the sprinkle then I saw smoke. He really got nervous. He taught he had burned the house. LOL. When he came back to talk to me, he told me everything, that he was frying the chicken and he forgot that he was doing it. So I told him, next time, tell me that he is cooking, we can talk later. How about you my friends. Has anyone had the same experience as my husband did? Care to share it? Everyone's welcome. HUGZ!

LOL! I haven't done this in awhile, I think the last time I did it I forgot about cookies in the oven. By the time I remembered them, they were so charred there was no trying-to-save about it! One of my friends (when she was my roommate) burned an entire skillet of bacon, even though she had sat down on the couch right on the other side of the wall to the kitchen! I reminded her to get up and check it a couple of times but I think that it got burned when I went in my room to get something and I didn't go back out! My smoke alarm started beeping like crazy.

That is one thing that no one likes. I know that has happened to me and I know I have not likes it. The worst thing is when the house starts smoking from the food burning and the smoke alarm goes off. It seems that the fan, that is over the stove is not working fast enough to get ride of the smoke. The next thing you have to open the window or door. That is why when you are cooking that you do not leave the food unless you know that it's turned down low. Then sometimes it can still get burned then too.

Just recently... I was cooking "pancit canton", the instant one... I left it to soften up the noodles and I sat down in front of my pc and totally forgot about it. LoL. The noodles got burned and sticked on the pot. Hehe. I promised I would never sit down and use the PC while cooking! Hehe!

I was putting some food in the microwave for my hubby's breakfast and leave there then iron his clothes..I was trying to accomplish 2 things fast..LOL! I didn't notice that instead of pressing 2:50 minutes, I did it for 22:50! Oh my God, I was so confident ironing and the kitchen started to have some smoke and smells fire..Good thing my husband was able to save it right away! I was really scared!

No, I didn't have this kind of experience yet, but I don't do much of the cooking. I don't like to cook so my husband does most of it. I believe that if I would be the one cooking I would have this kind of experiences very often. I'm not concentrated on the cooking, but I would be easily distracted. Have a nice day

I remember last Sunday, we are all busy that time. My wife was preparing for lunch while she was doing the laundry. The menu for the day was "sinigang na baboy" (pork in sour soup with veggies). She already put the pork in the pot, pre-cook it in small amount of water to tenderize. While doing the laundry, she asked me to take a look at kitchen and take charge of the cooking. Kids are playing, the youngest kid was so naughty so I had a good time watching them. Suddenly, my wife was yelling: "honey, there's something burning!". OMG, the pork had almost burnt. So I continue and finished the cooking. Wow, this lunch is great (sinigang na baboy na sunog). Everybody in the house had a great meal. KEEP SMILING = NEIL

Yes I cooked things where I forgot about them but it never set the smoke detector off thank god. I was makeing a tuna helper meal and I set it on low to let it cook slowly. I came back into the liveing room and got into ansering e-mails and forgot the tuna helper was on the stovetop. I think it had been about fifteen minutes and I smelt something like it was burning. It then dawned on me I had something on the stovetop cooking. I jumped out of the chair and went running into the kitchen and the stuff was all stuck to the bottom of the pan. I thought that seeing I put the cooking temp on low I would have a few minutes to respond to my e-mails. Nope apparently I didn't and I have learned to not take my attetion away fom things when I am cooking it. It's a good thing your husband saw that and did something about it and quick.

..I could remember the time when I was still in college and I was cooking for dinner and at the same time watching the a television program. I was cooking a 'Nilagang Baka' - it's a beef dish with a soup stock. I got hooked on the TV program I was watching that I completely forgot that I was cooking and I just remember about it when I smelled something got burned in the kitchen. Imagine a dish with a soup stock and got burned... Too good the kitchen didn't caught on fire, but I have to eat a canned goods then because I burnt my dish.

That does happen from time to time. It happens to me every once in a while. I will be making instant potatoes in a pan and I am waiting for the water to boil. I turn my head for just a second, the next thing I now the pot is overflowing with boiling water. It doesn't take long to lose track of your attention and next thing you know something is burning!

I put 6 eggs on to boil one afternoon and went back to playing canasta online and forgot all about them, when they boiled dry they exploded like a bomb going off, my husband who was asleep in the bedroom came running out yelling get out I think the hot water heater blew up, as i was running through the kitchen, I remembered the eggs. There was eggs every where, on the cabinets on the floor, all I could do was sit down and laugh. While it could of been a tragady, it turned out to be a big mess to clean up.

I have learned to NEVER leave the kitchen when your cooking. Its happened to me more than once, I'll be in the kitchen standing by the stove and either the phone will ring or my husband will be talking to me and I'll go in the front room to see what he's wanting, and before you know it, my food will be burning, it seems to happen even if you just step out a few minutes..lol. When your in the kitchen watching your food, it seems to take some things forever to cook, but as soon as you turn your back, it won't be long and it'll be burnt...I don't know how that happens...

When i was starting to learn to cook i used to burn food so often... Especially milk. We buy fresh cow milk and we heat it and keep for further use.Now i used to burn it up all the time and then it was another hell trying to wash the vessel. Also recently i was heating oil over the gas stove and left the kitchen to attend a call. When i returned the oil was clouding over with smoke...lol Now thinking that blowing on it will make it cool i blew on it and the fire caught up and in a jiffy the oil was in fire. Now i was really scared. I left the room after opening the outer door and it went off only after five minutes and the kitchen was thick with dark slimy smoke.. i shall never forget that....

I was running late for work this morning and forgot I had an egg on boiling. I turned it way down when I went in the shower and totally forgot and ran out. My son was home and I called him a thousand times but he slept right through. I told him and he said oh is that what I smell . At least the house didnt burn down.
