do you stock up on books or do one at a time?

I love reading and at the moment I have over 35 books on my "to read" shelf. I tend to buy books even if I'm already in the middle of another one and they started collecting to this point. Do you buy a book only if you're prepared to read it in the near future? Or do you buy them whenever and let them collect like me, so that you have a large choice of what you want to read next?

I LOVE to read and am just the opposite of you..I have shelves full of books that I have already read..lol..I usually read a certain author and when their next book of the series comes out, I buy it and wait till I'm done with the previous, but I don't let them get too far ahead of me. If I see a book that catches my eye and looks interesting I might pick it up or make a note to get it after I've read the ones I already have. :)

I only keep the books that I have some sort of attachment too. Otherwise I swap them with an online book swap community or sell them. I guess I don't read as much as I used to which is why my "to read" shelf has gotten so overflowed!

Oh that would be lovely! I think I would love owning my own bookstore. I feel at home surrounded by shelves and aisles and rows of books. :)

I don't usually buy books - most times I will go to the library & load up on books that way. It saves me money, and usually keeps me from getting too many books, since I know I usually only have three weeks to read them!!
I think though if I had more space for books I would probably have a whole room full of them...I love picking them up at yard sales & thrift stores...though don't very often since I really have no place to put them!

This is the problem I'm running into. We have one bookcase, and it is already full (with books stacked on top of each other, plus doubled so there are books BEHIND books). So I went through and listed a lot of them on Paper Back Swap to that I could get some credits to get some new reading material :) I hate parting with my beloved books though!

wow! over 35 books waiting to be read! that's quite a number hehe. for me i usually have around 3 or 4 books that's waiting for me to read them.

I know, crazy huh?!?! It started out with just a few, and then I'd stock up when they were buy 3 get 1 free at Border's. And then I'd buy some from the sale tables at the book store. And now I've got all those books waiting to be read. At least I know I won't run out of stuff to enjoy!

I get most of the books I read from the library. But when I am checking out books there I do usually end up checking out more books than I will be able to read during the period I am allowed to have them. I try to curb that but sometimes so many of the books look interesting that I cannot resist checking them out. I have never gotten into the habit of writing down the ones that look interesting and checking them out later. I guess I tend to have a now or never attitude when I am in the library. One of the things I like about checking out books from the library is that I can try reading books that are different from the ones I usually read without worrying that I am wasting money. Sometimes I find out I like these new books and sometimes I find that they do not appeal to me.

I think I would probably do the same thing...take more than I can handle in the time allowed! haha. I'm impulsive and if I see 'em, I want 'em NOW.
