Tell me more about RSS

Can you please explain to me what RSS means and why exactly its necessary to have one before you can register your blog with mylot.I have tried to register my blog on mylot on two occassions but it was been refused,although i don't know the reason why but i guess i must have put in a wrong RSS,i use google.
