Do you go to your High School Reunions?

I just got an invitation to my 25th reunion.
I've never gone to one before. Have you?
I didn't really have any friends that were in my class anyway.
My friends were either younger or in a different school.
I wouldn't want to go and tell all my old classmates that I never got married, but I had 2 kids, and I clean homes and offices. Lol.
Not that I'm embarrassed of myself....I just have no desire to get dressed up and pay money to go to a place and tell them those few boring facts. Lol.
And I also have no interest in what they are doing now. Nothing impressed me.
I also have anxiety around large groups of people. Actually, anywhere there is more than 2 people. Lol!
I realize there were alot of discussions started on this subject, but they were all a year or two old, so I thought I'd get everyone's opinion now, since I wasn't around here a year ago, and maybe a lot of you weren't either.
So tell me what you think about reunions. Do you go to them? If not, why not?

I have only recently been in touch with some of my school friends, I left school 19 years ago this summer. I thought it would be exciting and fun to get in touch with the ones that I remember the most but actually it turned out to be quite disappointing.
It also made me remember that actually I was not that popular at school and did not make much of an impact on anyone! I thought that if there was a reunion it would be interesting to go, I know that I am much prettier now than I was in school but then dwelling on it a while I realised that actually I could not really care less!!

Yea, I'd rather just unexpectedly run into someone in the store or something, and just run into one at a time and ask how they've been. I don't mind when that happens.
And if it was someone I didn't get along with well in school, we could just pass each other by and pretend we didn't see each other. Lol!

LOL I am not likely to bump into anyone from my school as I moved right away from where I used to live. But if I did then I would most likely pretend I had not seen a lot of them, a lot of them just used to try and bully me!

I have never went to any of my class reunions and I never will I didn't like those stuck up snobs when I was in school so I sure wouldn't want to see them again! I never want to visit that highschool again. We moved when I started highschool to a new town so it was hard to make new friends.

No, I didn't. I didn't like all those snobs when we were in school, and I sure don't even care what they're doing now.
Besides, I live 500 miles away from all of them now. Only a couple of them that I've seen since graduation 34 years ago.

Yes, I did. I have been attended five high school reunions. Well, I came from two different schools, three of the reunion came from the school where I graduated. The two reunions came from the schools I have spent my first two years of secondary education. I have many friends during my high school days and most of them remained my friends until now. I am the class valedictorian so I am expected to attend the occasion. Well, I attend the event primarily to expand my network since I am an entrepreneur. But I also want to see some old friends. You should try it, I think you will enjoy what your former classmates and professors look right now.

I haven't gone to any of mine. They are essentially drunk-fests, and I can only wish that my class would go to the bother of actually dressing up. The most recent reunion was a pig roast!
Sorry, but I'd rather pass....

I didn't go to my 5 or my ten year reunions. I don't know where I was for the five, but I was in Disney for the 10 LOL I doubt I will ever go to one. Anyone I want to see I keep in contact with and most of the people I talk to from HS I didn't graduate with.

Hi momalisa,
When I was still in College, I always bother my classmates in High School to organize a reunion..LOL! Almost all of my classmates are my friends so nothing to worry about seeing them after many years!
They have gathered several times but I was not informed..LOL! No one can contact me and I will meet only 1 classmate accidentally in the road or mall sharing me that they are having it and they are trying to contact me..LOL!
Anyway, when I was working and very busy, I started also to lose my interest on it! I am glad I met few at friendster!

I went to my 25th. it was such a dumpy thing! No signs or banner or things like you see in the movies. No "awards" for things like "who traveled the farthest" or "who had the most kids" or things like that. No games, no trivia things about the "old school days". Absolutely nothing and you know what they had for dinner? At $32 a pop....hamburgers and baked potatoes. The bar was "pay your own". No introductions or anything to bring up the past and remember high school days! A guy that thought I was the pits back then and wouldn't give me the time of day, hit on me and I turned him down! So other than that, it was nice to go back to the town and see how it's grown and what the school looks like and all.

I have to been to a few of them but not for years. I was still married to my first husband when I went. I'm in the same situation most of my friends were either older or younger. My best friends were in the class behind me. I dont know if I will go to anymore or not. I wonder if I would recognize me.

I just ran into a guy I went to school with in the grocery store the other day. He looked right at me and said "Hi Lisa" so that was nice to know he still recognized me. Lol!

Hi ,
My 10 year is coming up next year and I dont think I am going . There are some people I still keep in touch with , but I dont look at us as good friends . Maybe , if we all go together I will go , but I don't know I am such a shy person . I am however very curious to go .

If it's not coming up until next year, you could start making plans for you and your friends to go together if you really want to go, but don't want to go alone.

I went to my 10 year reunion. It was enough to tell me I could skip it for the next several generations. Last year (2007) was my 30th. I thought about going but didn't. Maybe I'll try the 40th. LOL Assuming I'm still here by then.

Hi Tess, I wasn't thinking you were old enough to have had your 30th reunion already, Lol.
I guess when we don't know what each other looks like and we're always looking at avatars, we make up our own version of who the other person is.
I'm sure you'll still be around for your 40th!
Thanks for your comment!

i didn't go to any of mine. for me it is too weird to go back into the past with everyone being different. and chances were those that were my friends wouldn't be there either. they were spread across the country and possibly the world.

My 25th reunion is in a few weeks too! I am not going and I have never gone to a reunion. Funny thing is I still live in the same city that I graduated from and my kids now are in the same school system. My best friend from high school emailed me and asked if I was going or if any of our close friends were going. None of us were and we decided to pass up the reunion and just get together. The classmates of ours that are going to the reunion were the ones that we really didn't hang out with and we would rather just get together with the people we really want to see rather then going to a stuffy event trying to make small talk with people you weren't close with in school.

I don't go to them. I have my 20th coming up in 2009 but I live in florida now and the reunion is in Arkansas. I keep in touch with my old school friends on myspace and facebook. They know that I now live in Florida and won't be at the reunion.

Our class had a5 year reunion, I didn't see the point, so I didn't go. We had a 10 year reunion, but somehow I forgot to go to it. In 2006 we had a 20 year reunion. I made a concentrated effort and went. It was interesting, I realized just how many people in my class I didn't know. I did find some old friends and a few acquaintances that I remember fondly. My friends all said that they wouldn't be back for the 20th, but I think that I might try to go, even if I don't know anyone.

I always try to attend my high school reunion. Not only do I get to touch base with my old friends, I also get to benchmark my success against theirs. I'm very close with my high school friends. Even without a reunion, I make it a point to grab coffee with them once in a while. The problem with reunions is that there are too many people to make meaningful conversations. But it's really fun and worthwhile in my opinion.

I have never had a high school reunion because I am too young still to be having a high school reunion and that wont happen for another few years. But I would really love to go to a high school reunion of mine to see how everyone in my graduating class turns out. I think that I had a lot of friends in high school or aquaintences and I know somehow. I know that I will be successful in the future and I would just love to see how everyone else turns out. Not just to see that people have failed or to be jealous of them, or even gloat about my life and successes but just to see how everyone turned out and see everyone again. Although I do or did not hang out with my high school friends, because I have other friends out of school, I would like to see who they got married to, how many children they have, where they live, where they work. That would be so interesting to see how everyone has aged and grown up to be an adult instead of an annoying teenager. Personally, I cant wait to go to my first reunion!
