Do you believe that we all have a lesson to learn in life?

Do you believe that we have many lives and many lessons? I believe that we have a jouney to make and that each lesson we learn helps us progress both in body and spirit. My partner however believes that we simply exist and die thats it! What do you believe? Do you believe in fate or are you the master of your own destiny? I suppose alot of this depends on your religion or faith but i don't want to get into religion because i find my religious believes all have a similar undercurrent anyway I purley want your thoughts on life, life after death, fate and the reason we are here.

Every human is an amalgamation of good and experiences in life - self as well as those of others that one has seen, heard of, read about, etc. How each person collates, understands and interprets and acts upon those experiences varies from human to human. Each person tries to be the master of his/her destiny, some succeed partly, most don't because all our lives are interconnected with our environs, with nature which are all so predictably unpredictable. I firmly believe that there is a creator, humans call him/her God, but religion and God are man made concepts, both are useful crutches in times of crisis. I have been equipped with a mind and a body and the ability to act, the instinct to survive and grow-these are the best tools and aid that a God could have imparted to any creature. Six years ago, my heart once stopped after a long and critical surgery, this was around 8.00 pm - night time. In the interim period between the stoppage and revival - a few minutes - I felt that I was in a huge field with lots of Sunflowers - like those you see in the movies shot in Denmark - and then I saw a bright light in the distance. As I walked towards the light, I could hear birds chirping, smell the smell of fragrant flowers, all my senses were sharpened. (The fact that I was walking was amazing to me, since, my surgery involved cutting open my torso -right from my abdomen to the top of my ribcage.) While I was nearing the light, I could barely discern a figure in the light, suddenly my heart was revived and I regained my senses to my doctor's gentle calls - repeating my name on and on - Had I approached the creator? Or was it just my brain winding down and playing a scene from the past? I really don't know. I have tried to fathom the reasons for our existence, but have et to come up with a logical and a reasonable answer, most of the answers that I have tried to reason out are more 'human' responses - why should the creator be human or human like with a human like nature at all? why should he/she have created humans in his own image? Maybe further down the line our descendants could be evolve to even more superior creatures? So why not in that image, or the image of some other superior intelligence? Religions and Gods have been conceived with too many human attributes, I don't think the superior intelligence of a God would be vengeful or destructive...... There is a lot more I could expand on ....... All I know is that: Life's Lovely! Love & Live Life! Live & Let Live!

In China, the Communist Party teach all of us that there's no god or spirit in the world from our childhood. But I don't agree with this. I believe there's always be something or someone which dominate the world. Maybe none of us are the master of our own destiny. What we can do is to do our work better and serve others better. Just like you said, progress both in body and spirit.

i'm glad you made your own mind up rather than being pushed into a belief i don't agree with that everyone should have the freedom to believe what they believe. Thanks for posting

I do believe we live many lives and each of those lives is the goal to learn something. I believe once we learn all there is to know about life we move on to a paradise type place.

I think we all have a destiny or aim to achieve in life but we control how we reach it. I don't believe there's an all mighty being or a heaven and hell but i do believe that we are already in a heaven and hell scenario (Earth) it's the situations and times that change our views in which place we live in.

interesting with the heaven/hell/earth senario never thought of it that way. I believe we have a course to follow but that we are given many views and situations like you mentioned and also paths to get there. Kind of like a maze you have a beginning and an end but how you get there is up to you. How do you feel you are doing with your destiny? Do you know what it is?
