What would you do if you got an extra $100?

Last month, I was cleaning out my kitchen
cabinets and found $100!
Unreal! I have no idea how the money got there.
But I took it as a good sign. Of course, the money
was ours. I guess it got misplaced some month's previous
when my spouse had his check cashed.
Just in time, too. Money was really tight that month
so we used it to pay bills.
If you found extra money somewhere in your house
or got the money as a bonus at your job, what
would you do with it?
Would you blow it on something luxurious?
Would you use the money to pay credit card bills?
Make an investment?
What would you do?

I would surely save up. I have many things to buy, but for now, I just want to save up till I can buy something really big and good. I love electronic gadgets and they usually cost a fortune, if you are going in for a company that provides good quality. So I'd like to save up and use that money for something that will stay with for a long time rather than just spend it away on small things. I might also consider going on a vacation with that money. it's been a long time since I took one and I'm tired...

Money in the bank earning interest is never a bad idea!

I could cal lmy huband and ask him if he wanted half, or if he wanted me to deposit the entire thing into our savings account. If he wanted half I'd send him half, and put my half into savigs.

Well my finance are on the kids this month, and huby's aren't tha great either, sice he's been the one to take care of eveyone he knows for the past 50 years, so being in he same boat, we might as well share the money.
What he and I make on line and from the sale of our books is our personal money, but were it found money that probably belonged to the household anyway, we'd split it.

That sounds fair!
I wouldn't have thought to split it
50/50 with my spouse.
We do a shared pot of money thing in
our house.
All the money goes in to pay bills, housing,
electricity, food, gas, etc.
And whatever is left
over gets divided up as needs and wants arise.
Plus some for savings. We are perpetually saving for
another car.
If we had a couple more thousand dollars monthly
available things would be different.
Everyone would have their own money!

i usually experience the same thing and i just tell myself that it does pay off to do the household chores. hahaha
seriously though, whether the period is financially tight or not, the extra money will have to go to paying off the bills first or buying extra grocery (stuff that i promised myself i would buy when there's extra money to spend). or else it goes directly to my savings account... to be used for emergency purchases or other more important needs.
unexpected extra money is really a gift and should be treated as such. it is something to be thankful for, whatever the amount is. :)

your comment made me remember when i recently cleaned out my old bags (traveling bags, laptop bags, shoulder bags and hand bags). in one bag i found about $10, in another it's about $50, and another one for about $100 and lastly i found my old collection of different currencies and it's probably amounting to $300-$400. that is really one of the benefits of doing the clean up.
even if it's technically my money stashed in those bags and almost forgotten, it gave me the thrill of finding lost treasures. :)

wow.. that's cool. we'll i tried that several times, not as big as your bill though, and i haven't tried finding one in the kitchen. but i usually see money on my pocket jeans. like after it got washed and cleaned. and the money is so crumpled up..but i can still be used anyways..if i see 100 dollar bill, i think i will go shopping!hehe well because i always see to it eveything's all covered up for the month, i mean with the expenses, so guess when i find one that should be extra for me!:)

Iwould replenish my wardrobe and get some skirts, and

Pay for the credit card first, if there is still some leftovers, buy something that you love.

I would put it in my cash stash for an emergency at this point. When we are doing well financially, I plan in extra cash to spend when it accumulates, but right now we are on a downward plane. It is due to get better again, soon, though.

We go through times like that too.
And you're smart for stashing extra money away.
This past time when my spouse was out of a job,
he got unemployment checks, but that ran out.
Lucky for us, I had stashed away some money
ahead of time and we had enough to buy a small
used car (since ours had broke down)
and pay rent plus bills for one extra month
until he could find a better paying job.
Funny thing, I found the amount for rent stashed in
the closet! How weird is that?
I don't even remember putting it there.
I used to do stuff like that.
Guess it was smart, cause that money turned into our
saving grace. We had it when we really needed it.
Nowadays, I tuck away small bits of money here and there
that noone misses. And when we need something major,
the money is always there.
Every penny and dollar really adds up and is so helpful
when it's needed!

We spent way too much money this summer traveling back and forth to see family. If I found $100 or received it out of the blue I would probably just put it in the bank. Nothing exciting, I know.
I love finding money! lol My husband was all excited about finding $3 in one of his uniforms a couple of days ago. He is so silly.

You think that's silly?
Once I spent ten dollars on
blue dye for my spouse's work pants.
And after I got them done, I found
five dollars in one of the pockets!
Yep! It got dyed too.
I spent that blue dyed five dollar bill!
I took it like a rebate on my dye job!

I don't know what I would do with it. Probably just put it away for a rainy day. I am saving up to buy a car right now. I just spent almost $3000 on getting my eyes lasered so I don't have to wear glasses and that took me about a year to save. So now I am on my way to getting a car. I have about $2500 saved so far and so if I were to find $100 like you did, I would probably just put it towards my car savings.
Or I might spend it on myself. Maybe treat myself and buy myself something nice. Like a new top and jeans or a new winter coat or boots. Not that I need these things, because there is nothing wrong with my old ones, but sometimes it's just nice to buy ourselves something.
All I know is I wish I found $100 laying around my house. Good for you, my friend. And by the way, since this discussion is 3 months old, what did you do with it?

That's great! Talk about a little mysterious blessing.
When I was younger, I used to hide money throughout my books and the house so that I could hunt for it, in an emergency. I'm sure the habit is a bit weird, but it's actually come in handy. It's easy to spend money that's sitting in an account, but it actually requires motivation to spend if you have to seach for it.
I'm glad you found it and were able to get a bit of relief from your bills.

That's the way that I am. Get used to it. No matter how badly I need it (which I really did at that moment), it didn't belong to me and somebody else would have been hurt.

First since I am a Christian, I would Praising God and thanking him as I am sure it would be an answer to Prayer. Then I would probably go get Groceries or something like that, as that would probably be one of the main reasons I would need the extra $$ for. All I know is if I was that lucky to find an extra $100 somewhere it would be a Good day indeed.

Well wouldn't use it for credit card bill cuz those were paid and cut up. Probably put on other bills. Or could fill up the car and the truck that should take most of the $100. Sad huh. lol

Money is a good thing. If I am that lucky, I think I would use the money to pay for the bills, and if POssible, I think i would put the money aside for future use and I would spend it later on when I come across some emergencies.

I found 100 dollars that I had stashed several months ago. It will come in handy so my husband can buy gas. It takes 80 dollars to fill his tank up. He works out of town so he uses a tank and a half of gas per week. I had decided that if I had any money left over from my pay check when I got paid again I would stash the left over cash. So the other day I looked to see if I had any money stashed. Yayaya I did have 100 dollars and we get paid on Thursday just in time for another tank of gas.

How nice! I always love finding money I've misplaced! LOL. I would check and see if we need anything and buy things we need or put it straight in the bank to put towards the bills!!
