For those of you who have had a pet cremated and the cremains (or ashes) returned to you, what did you do with the ashes? My daughter's 18 year old cat passed away recently and we had the ashed returned to us. I have looked online and many of the memorial urns, etc. look pretty expensive. I don't think that we really need something as formal as that and I was wondering whether anybody had any creative ideas that are not too expensive. I am thinking that durability is important and maybe the ability to lock or otherwise secure the receptacle. So does anybody have any suggestions or ideas that you have used?

I usually go with buying either an urn or a wooden box. However, occasionally I'll want something different and I've found that if boxes are not sold specifically as memorial boxes, they are much less expensive. I've bought gorgeous boxes made of stone that are $25 or so. Most of my urns were at least $50, and these are small urns for the ashes of guinea pigs.
Try looking on eBay for wooden or stone boxes and you just might find something suited to the personality of this cat. There are so many different choices out there that something will probably pop out at you.
Best of luck and sorry to hear about your loss.
