Good topic! I remember when 911 happened, I couldn't help thinking that my parents (Both deceased by then) never lived through a foreign attack on US soil and always felt safe. Now I can't help but think that they were probably the last generation of Americans who believed in and could achieve the American Dream as we've known it. But I guess there is some of the optimist in me because I do believe that we can (and will) redefine the American Dream and go right on dreaming.

I always thought this was pretty much the dream of people around the wiorld? -But I think the American dream is getting close to impossible to achieve now. And everyone has a differetn dream, so we can'rt assume they all want the same thing.
The house with the pickett fence, though..2 kids or so..I think it can be done with hard work. But it IS work and you have to go after it. Too many today want the dream without having to do the work.

We Americans dom't let go of a dream very easily. In this case, it's not the dream that's inappropriate these days; it's how we go after it. If we don't adapt, we'll be extinct really soon. Resilient as we are, I'm sure we'll get through it with our dreams intact.
