Theere's never a good time to catch a cold or come down with a flu. So what should you do? Take high dose of vitamin C? Suck on some zinc lozenges? Or do you stick to Mom's old fashioned remedies like blow of chicken soup, hot tea, menthol rubs to fight thiose bugs the best you can?

I usually take extra vitamin -like a massive dose of about 1 gram each hour, and then for a throat infection I eat a raw clove of garlic, that tends to sting a lot but does get rid of the infection faster.
At the first sign of a cold though, I use a 3% mixture of food grade hydrogen peroxide in each ear, if I catch it in time, it works. But one needs to be very careful with hydrogen peroxide, so don't use it unless you know what you're doing. There is more information on the site http://www.mercola.com on how to use it.

The first thing is to spray a normal saline spray into the nose. That's where the germs like to hide while they multiply. The saline helps kill them and wash them out. You can get commercial saline nasal spray, or make your own and administer it with a netti pot.
Make a cup of warm lemonade sweetened with honey. I don't like to use sugar because it is a negative nutrient. Your body has to used stored energy to digest it and it's already working overtime fighting the cold or flue. Honey is antibacterial and a great carrier for the benefits of the lemon. Don't give honey to a child under 2 years.
Chicken soup is good. If there's no one there to make it for me and I'm just not up to making chicken soup from scratch, I add some cayenne pepper and garlic to a can of chicken soup and eat that.
I have several herbs that I keep on hand to fight the cold and flu. I use Yarrow, Echinacea, Mullien, Peppermint leaves and/or roots in a tea, or I take Echinacea/Goldenseal capsules every hour until the symptoms begin to abate, then take them as directed for a couple more days.
Sage tea is also great for fighting a cold, sore throat or tonsilitis.
