Shoes or barefoot? I can't function in shoes!

I wear them when I absolutely have to but when I'm wearing them, I trip over things. I'm clumsy and can't feel my feet as well, a rug will cause me to trip when I walk over it. Stairs become enemies because the shoes will catch on the steps and I fall or stumble. I hate shoes! I have to be very, very careful when I wear them and pay attention to my feet or else I'll be crashing all over the place. Mom, on the other hand, can't walk without shoes because her feet hurt without them. Do shoes cause you trouble, too? Any recommendations as to reasonably priced brands? The only shoes I ever liked were Easy Spirit Tennis shoes and I can't find them here.

I am much more comfortable barefoot too but don't have the problems with shoes that seem to plague you. The first thing I do when I come home is take off my shoes, and usually don't wear them in the yard either. I have worn Easy Spirit and they are good shoes. You can buy them online from Blair.com and also Mason Shoes and also numerous other stores if you shop online. Hope you are able to become more stabile in shoes, I guess it became normal for me since I worked for so many years and employers insist on footwear on the job.

Thanks for the info! I will look into it and see if I can't get a pair. Funny, a few years back I bought a pair and got one for free. I wore one pair till my boss asked me couldn't I afford new shoes? So I looked for the other pair and never did find them!

I'm with you, I love to go barefoot. But, I got a strange note from my apartment manager that said that everyone in my apartment complex was complaining that I wasn't wearing shoes. Huh? She threatened to evict me if I didn't wear shoes around the building. Well, I can't really afford to move, so I started to wear shoes and now I wear shoes all the time when I am out of the apartment. Before that, I only wore shoes if I was getting in my car and going somewhere. I have really good luck with shoes at Wal Mart. They tend to be wide, which I don't need, but they rarely bother my feet. I can't go to other places like Payless because they hurt so badly. Other than that, the shoes at JC Penney's have always worked for me.

That's so ridiculous! You know, people now are so paranoid about germs that it's getting so that nobody can do anything and soon we'll all be required to wear moonsuits or something! Those types of people are the ones who are going to be the first to go in a pandemic or epidemic. They've protected themselves so much that their immune systems are ripe for a successful invasion.

And another thing--why couldn't they just come to you instead of complaining to the manager?! Bunch of wussies, paranoid pantywaists.

Hi, I don't wear shoes unless I absolutely have to either. I am always barefoot from the time I reach the door until I leave again. Sometimes I'll even run out the garbage or go to the backyard with my dogs barefoot. I guess my feet are used to it and it doesn't bother me at all. Hy hubby is like your mom. He can't even go barefoot in the house. He has to have his slippers on. What a baby! lol When I do leave the house, if it is anywhere near warm, I've got flip flops on or my Crocs. I have regular Walmart tennis shoes for winter so I'm sorry but can't recommend any brands for you. Happy MyLotting, Char

I have been seen wearing flip flops when the snow is falling! Slippers are nice in the winter but while they're better than shoes I still am clumsy in them.

Hie Dragon, I have tripped a few time but due to my clumsiness, not because of my shoes. I do agree though certain shoes are too bulky or shaped, angled oddly and could cause incidence like this too. I got a pair of walking shoes from 'Footsolutions' and I find it very comfortable & been using it for few years now. It really helped my backache and I could walk in long hours better than I used too. I am not sure whether you have this store over there. They have trained pedorthist, service of custom made insoles that gives the arch support.Perhaps when they scan your feet and observe the way you walk, they could give you further advice in looking for better shoes. Cheers,

I hate wearing shoes! As soon as I get home, they come off! I love to be barefoot! I am always tripping over my feet or like last night one of the cats. I just don't like to wear shoes ever. If I didn't have to wear them when I'm out I probably wouldn't. I like to buy them and have different pairs but, when it comes to actually wearing them it's a different story.

It's also so easy to harm an animal when wearing shoes, you can't fee through the shoes if you contact their poor little tails! Barefoot, you feel it and back off in time to avoid it.

Its not the Brand that will tell you its a "The Best" shoes for your feet. I have lots of shoes branded and not. My mom usually told us the best way to buy shoes is when your feet are tried from all the days work. So that you'll still feel comfortable with them. Yes, we all do love shoes that are beautiful, but make sure that they are not just beautiful to look at, must also feel beautiful when your also standing 3 hours straight or walking even running.

Well, it is not Fun to have feet that hurt you all the time, nor it is Fun to be falling everytime, or finding yourself tripping over things as well. Personally for me, I feel best when I have no shoes on, as I want my feet to breath and not have to worry about being closed in. Since I am diabetic, there are times my feet tend to get too hot and sweat and that really bothers me as well. What bothers me most, is I have 2 different sized feet so I usually have to buy a little big in case my feet swell, etc. so sometimes that makes it awkward as well.

Lots of people have different sized feet, my Mom is among them! Plus, she has very narrow feet so has to buy special shoes. I'm glad I don't have that problem. I love being barefoot, I think it's healthier!

I hate shoes. I only wear them when I have to. I do not dislike them because of any troubles I have with them like you seem to. I just do not like having my feet confined in a shoe. I do not like socks for the same reason.

It's healthier to go barefoot. Skin needs to breathe! I think if we were meant to wear shoes we'd have been born with them.

I don't really have a problem with shoes that much. Now when it comes to heels that is another thing. The point heels I have to be careful in them. There are days I can walk fine in them, then there are days when I feel like I could trip at any time. So I have to try and find a wedged or squared heel where I feel more comfortable walking in. Flat shoes and flip flops, I'm good walking in them. They are more closer to the ground and I'm alright walking in them.

I've always wanted to wear heels, but with my scoliosis (spinal curvature) and flat feet it's always been impossible. They would make me feel so nice!

That's me, too! I think not being able to feel what's under my feet is what trips me up, like I'm disconnected from the earth.

I hate shoes too. When I was a kid, I was able to walk barefoot over gravel and on hot pavements quite well. I don't do that anymore (although the bottoms of my feet probably are still like shoe leather). I wear shoes when I'm out and about in the world. But as soon as I get in the door, the shoes have to come off.

I'm the same way. I remember going nearly all summer without shoes except when we went to church or the grocery. Back then, some people didn't even wear shoes to the grocery! My soles aren't tough anymore, though, so it's flip-flops on the sidewalks around my house.

I like to go barefoot around the house, outside in the summer I will wear sandals and flipflops. I usually take my shoes off when I walk into the house, but definitely before going downstairs...I think that is because I did slip on the carpeted stairs once and twisted my ankle.

Stairs are where I have to be very careful. I'm barefoot in my house but in public I have to be very careful climbing stairs with shoes on.

Yes, I like to be in touch with what I'm walking on. Have you ever nearly stepped on a dog's tail in shoes? You can't feel that first tickling of hair that tells you to back off quickly!

I usually am wearing flip flops, as concrete and no shoes is painful. When I'm indoors, then no shoes for me, as its more comfortable for me. No sweaty feet for me.

Barefoot is so much healthier! Think of all the fungus and stuff we'd avoid if we didn't wear shoes so much of the time and let our poor feet breathe!

I used to love wearing shoes, especially fancy heels. They made me feel so elegant. Now I can only wear my tennis shoes since I got pregnant and had my daughter. My feet spread out terribly during the pregnancy because of all the added weight and so now, wearing heels is a real pain! But my daughter loves wearing all kinds of shoes, but just at play time!

I always had to wear "clodhopppers", ugly things. I would love to wear beautiful shoes!! Alas, my feet are flat as pancakes and very painful. Perhaps one day my sons will give me granddaughters to spoil with gorgeous shoes and pretty clothes!

I won't go on sidewalks, etc. with no shoes, usually cos my feet are tender. But shoes really trip me up! I think most of us go barefoot in our houses!
