My daughter works for a catering company and often works late into the night (she hopes because they pay better after midnight). Last night she staggered home from a private function clutching a huge cardboard box. Being a caring daddy I had waited up for her. "Look at this" she said prising the top off the box. A whole catering size Mississippi Mud Pie lurked within. I know what we shall be eating for desert for the rest of this week! Do you get any "interesting" freebies from your work?

As a matter of fact yes. I am a volunteer coordinator and on Saturdays I get lunch donated for my volunteers. I take what hasn't been touched. Today I brought home 2 large pizzas. Last week I brought home a ton of chicken wings. My last job was at an animal shelter. I got free dog food and supplies which was great since we have three big dogs.

Hi p1,
That was great! Lucky day there! LOL
The last company where I worked gave all the employees a sack of rice every December, the expensive one, no great gift to look forward each year!

Am I dreaming or is this an oldie resurrected?..one r..2 s`s omg..well anyway,we did at one time, when our son worked at the cellar cafe Longleat we used o have some lovely goodies come our way!we would inspect his duffle bag every night when he came home for the illicit goodies!and there lurking in the depths of that tattered and smelly old duffle bag were bars of chocolate, that had accidentally `fallen` into it,and maybe a few pieces of lush cake,Oh those treats were awesome!!Ive never worked anywhere where you had perks as such, the only thing that may have come my way was the odd incontinence pad or two,and Mr Ruby worked with a pen,so he had npo perks either\!!but some jobs have excellent perks attached to them, but the trouble is you only get them if you can find a way of smuggling them out!

I haven't but my sister in law worked for a place that gave out the leftover foods to it's employee to take home instead of wasting and she always shared them with the family. Loved the fried mushrooms and broccoli with cheese. My husband brings home some from time to time not alot but little left over wood occasionally and today he brung a bathroom sink facuet home that the man gave him that he is building for. The man works for American Standard Plumbing company and he get freebies he says so now we have a sink and shower fixtures to remodel out bathroom..they were solid metal and very pretty and my husband says costly.

He said he will be getting my husband a Kitchen Sink faucet next. My sister in law seen them and stated they were worth almost $200 for both items he received free. Lucky he loves my husbands work. Well, I just hope they will be installed sometime in the near future before the end of the year atleast. Otherwise Steve I will have to borrow you away from goodie and have you install them for me..lol I promise not to beat you with a brush.

YUM. I adore Mississipi Mud Pie, what a perk to bring home, enjoy. A job with perks, these days? LOL. Thats great to hear. Before all the new EU rules and regs some of the companies I used to work for used to let us take all sorts of food home with us but these days company policy etc you can't. I hate to see waste. I worked for a company in Surrey once and one of Jessicas birthday parties was made up of food that was left over from the days buffet orders and sandwich rounds and my boss even through in a chocolate cake too. The biggest perk I ever got though was a brand new car at trade price through my then husbands firm and years later I actually got more than I had paid for it intially when I finally sold, result. Ellie :D

i used to work for a retail music store so i usually get audio cds or movie dvds from suppliers. other times i get band shirts or concert tickets. there was a time that i really didn't have to buy my favorite album or miove. i'd just "request" it from the label that released it and sure enough after a day or two, i get my "gift". i already left my work there but i'm still friends with the label representatives so i still get a couple of cds.
i've managed to build my cd and dvd library from the "gifts" i got then.

Sounds like a good deal. There is a row going on in the UK about the amount of Advance and promotional CDs that are appearing on E Bay at the moment. The music companies insist that they are theirs and not saleable. Of course the sellers take a different view. LOL.

Well, were there any goodies lurking in her basket last night?or maybe she wasnt working.I have every sympathy for her working in catering in this heat, she must be boiling, its not the easiest of jobs at the best of times.IN this weather she needs a job at Walls ice cream factory, the only trouble is that your choc ice would be a bit soggy in her duffle bag!Just imagine all those that are sweating it out in the fish and chip shops!

She didn't work yesterday or today. She's been saved the nightmare of all that charging around in the heat. I make my own ice cream and i suspect that it's hot work. All those freezer units working churning out hot air. No thank you. I spent and hour tending the jungle that we call our garden and came in absolutely soaked through. It's going to be even worse tomorrow humidity wise!

My hubby manages a taco bell so I can get free taco bell anytime. But the nice thing is the company that owns this taco bell owns many other places so we get a discount at many different places plus they do give out freebies ever so often. Like we just got 4 free tickets to valleyfair an amusement park nearby. Me being pregnant we decided to sell them and are gonna make $80.00 so that will be nice. He has gotten concert tickets and lots of others. They also do cash contests and last summer he won 6 weeks in a row each week was a $120 gift card that was a nice summer.

I've not heard of such a thing, though I would love to put my fingers into that pie and chew them... I did get gifts in different forms, that is for my birthday, for Christmas and then when I resigned.... I thank them for that.

In one of the former company I worked with, it's T-shirts. And I had something like ten to twelve of them in less than three months. Well, not that they are not good but wearing the same colour and design tend to make others think that I do not change my shirts. Howabout this for thoughts.

hi pikey well I used to get a lot of interesting
freebies from working in the library and usually
they were just the sort ofthing I was not supposed
to eat, like cakes, candy, chocolates etc. but one day,
now I must add Iam a diabetic,we had a huge gift to us
from a patron who owned a donut shop. well at my break,
I thought these are all free and I did not have a dessert, so
yes, I will eat a donut so I ate a chocolate frosted one, them oh wellone more wont hurt, I ate one with multicolored sprinkles, then someone came in and said, do try those with that caramel
frosting, they are so good. so I took the donut and I ate it,three donuts to a diabetic. suddenly I just could not move, I needed to go b ack to work, but I was just plain woozy, and dizzy. lol I tried to get up, someone asked me if I was alright, and I mumbled yes I m fine, just cannot get up. well my boss came in,took one look at me, and asked Julie to give me a ride home. so I sort of stumbled along, groggy as hell and when I got home I checked my blood sugar. I was having cold chills,it was only fifty so my husband made me drink a whole glass of orange juice then wait fifteen minutes, check my blood sugar again , it was 100 soI was once again normal. I have never touched another donut lol. too afraid of going into a coma.one thing about being retired from the library, I am no longer surrounded by tempting freebie goodies yelling at me to eat me, eat me.

I used to buy the girls in my office tins of Quality Street and Roses at Christmas. No, I never got any freebie officially from work except a keyring and a packet of promotional mints. But then when I left after 31 years they sent me a letter signed by someone that I had never heard of thanking me for my efforts! I had a lot of fun there, but they weren't too bothered about the staff and certainly never gave us presents. They were spending taxpayers money though. So I sort of think that they did the right thing.
