I have read " the other boleyn girl" and have just finished reading "The Boleyn Inheritance" by Philippa Greggory. I have never read two books that pulled me in and involved me in a story as much as these two books did. Now whether it is because they are based on true facts as are known or what it was I do not know.
What I do know is that I feel absolutely gutted that I have finished them! I find myself thinking of the characters all the time, and I find myself imagining in my head different storylines where I am playing a part. It is really strange. I am reading another book, but it is a different author and different type of book and it is taking me some time to get into! It is all very strange how it affected me so much.
I love historical novels, does anyone have any books to suggest for me to read that I might get into please ?
What is the last book that you read that affected you so strongly that you felt bereft when you finished it? Tell me about it!

i have a whole collection 7 books of Angelique. its a series brought out in late 60', early 70's. but its about a made up character (Angelique) that inner acts with real people of the period. like Louis fourteenth, Seneca indians, etc. and explains a lot of true things about how life was lived then in great detail. i read them in the 70's , then had to search them out and read them again. bought from ebay and amazon. im trying to find someone to sell them to now. lol. they do stick with you and are wonderful. theres a group on yahoo just for Angelique.

oh i forgot, they are by Sergeanne Golon. thought to be a husband wife team in France, but since it has come out that they are actually the works of Anne Golon. because her husband was already a known author, so she decided they would sell better with his name.

It's been a while since anything affected me that much. See if you can find anything ny Kathleen Woodiwiss...lovely big books that I truly enjoyed. Here is a link to her site:

I also like Georgette Heyer...she writes historically accurate romances and has even done a few at a purely historical level...here is a link to one of her fan sites...you can take it from there...I think you'll enjoy both these sites.

Anyway, I have been reading books when I was still in College,9 years ago and I have not tried what you have experienced, I mean I have tried feeling so inspired by the story of a girl in the story but after I finished it, I was also over with the feeling..
I am trying to get back into my reading habit but I can't si down and concentrate this time, I am more addicted here,,,
I am happy for you that you still find time to read despite of your hectic schedule! I will I will get a motivation from your experienced! LOL! Can't recommend any book this time..Sorry!

I haven't read them yet. But your post sure makes me want to. Now I have to borrow my hubbys library card. lol. I am a fan of author Anne Rice. She has written some very good books. You may like her. I re-read all of her books I own. So I don't miss the characters for long.

I like to read some historical novels. you might enjoy the Pillars of the Earth and World Without End by Ken Follett. They are both sweeping novels based on true to life historical circumstances. YOu would probalby also enjoy the works of James Michener who writes fictional stories based on historical fact. I dont always get drawn into stories.
