I did it! I finally unclogged the kitchen sink. There are two sinks in the kitchen, or actually a divided sink. It had been very slow for a while at the beginning of the month. It stopped draining altogether about two weeks ago. I tried baking soda and vinegar, which was working but then it stopped working. I was baling out the sink every day and getting stronger and saving water, but it was a lot of work. Finally, I tried the baking soda and vinegar again, and used a yogurt cup to plunge it over and over again! After an hour or so, I heard that old familiar knocking of the pipes, indicating the water was going down. I wish I had a picture of it, as I am so proud of myself. I have been clearing stopped up sinks for more than twenty-five years, but this was the worst time yet! Excluding the time the hose needed all new pipes as a tree had cut into the plumbing line, other than that this was the worst time. I pulled out a clump of hair, a whole bean, an old mushroom and a chopstick that had turned black!
What do you do to get the sink unclogged?

Oh yeah, if my husband were here, he might have used a wire hanger bent up! I have seen him do it before. I figured one last try before removing the trap! Husband will be back next week some time, so I will be able to relax more and let him do the tough jobs!

I try all that stuff and mnore before I finally break down an call someone. We had a clog that I tried for a month to get unclogged. The first plumber I called was as dumb as a bowling bowl. He only concentrated on the cleanout about where the clog should have been. He didn't try all of the others. He was there for about an hour to no avail. I called another plumber and within 5 minutes, he had the clog blasted.. it was grease that my son would drain into the sink. Tjis was after about 80 bajillion times we told him not to do this
Isn't that a great feeling to know you don't have to rely on someone else to get minor (or sometimes major) stuff done?
When I first got married, my husband worked on the road a lot. Anytime something within the household went wrong, I could usually fix it myself. I would sometimes amaze my husband. He would tell me on several occaions, "i was just going to call a plumber" HA! You are right.. never underestimte the power of a women. We know more and can do more than people think

Hi Olivemai, Well done you! I tend to use baking soda and vinegar, natural products rather than these caustic solutins that cause harm to the envirionment but I do have a plunger which does in fact make life a lot easier than an upside down plastic cup! LOL. It worked for you so that is the main thing. I am glad you got it unblocked. A chopstick, wow how did that get down there? I haven't found anything unusual, usually just bits really. Ellie :D

hi ollivemai good for you. I am proud of you. never
understimate the powerof us women. my bathroom sink
was giving me problems and I was out of baking soda
so was feeling with my finger in the plug that comes
up in the sink and it was clogged with my hair.lol.
wow. so I found an old tweezers and started pulling out
the hair,it was silver hair streaked with black ick
and I kept on wo rking and pretty soon the water
was going down just as fast as it is supposed to.
me and my tweezers won the battle.

Well, lucky for me, most all of us have the same color hair! I remember we mopped the floor and I thought maybe that was where some of the hair was coming from. I had even tried boiling water and that did not do much at all. Maybe the chopstick as holding the hair in an unusual position. My daughter was in the shower at the time, so I think that may have provided extra power since the water could not go in that direction while I was plunging. Good old yogurt cups do the trick just as well as a plunger could!

That's a good job you did on unclogging your sink. I know I don't have the paitence for that I let the good old drano go to work and that does the trick useally. I never was any good at fixin much but have managed to do a few on my own.
I was so used to calling my friend from work to come over and do the tasks for me. I finealy said ya know what let me do this on my own and yes they were little things like putting the new dvd player I got and hooking all the wires to where they were suppose to go and I ran a cable wire through my liveing room wall into the bedroom and got it all hooked up right so they work in both rooms now.
I am still learning to do major big projects on my own but for now I stick to the little simple stuff. Good for you that you can achieve these tasks like you do it makes ya feel proud dosn't it? I know it did for me.

Yea, I love that statement... Never under estimate the power of a woman.. Yes, there are things that woman can do where most people said it is a manly work. I don't care if that is a man or for a woman's job as long as I can make it and ti would make all of us in the house comfortable. There are times that man are too busy and they have no time to fix things in the house that they suppose to do.
