Basically I am a strong person, but if I have to sleep alone at night, I cannot really sleep peacefully. I feel as if someone is moving in the house, or if I will open my eyes I will find someone sitting at the corner of my bed staring at me.....or all the scary movies that I saw will come back to my memories...Does this happens to you all and if yes, then how to overcome this unnecessary fear.

I have been liveing on my own for quite some time so this kind of thing dosn't bother me to sleep alone in my place. I do get scared though at times if I watch a horrer movie late at night then try to go to bed right after wards. I get the spooked feeling of like someone's in my closet or behind the shower curtain when in real life noone is it's just my mind playing tricks on me. I try not to watch those kinds of movies at night any more and stick with regular comedy movies instead. Other than that I'm not afraid to sleep alone in my place.

yes you are right friend, the less we get involved into unpleasant things before going to sleep, the better will be our night.....next time I am alone at home, I am going to see some cartoon movie or some comedy.......this discussion really helped me with many ideas.......Thanks a lot for your reply.

I don't have any problem to sleep at night alone. I don't have fear of ghosts or some other things at night. But I think your problem is side effect of watching and thinking too much about horror movies. Watch the movies casually and don't think about them too deeply. So I will suggest While going to sleep think of something positive and good things that happened to you today.

I will surely take your advice and think something more positive and pleasant.......actually I don't see movies much, but recently I was in the hospital with my mother in law who was admitted and there I saw some unpleasant things, may be that left some scary impressions on my mind.....I am sure , with time, I will be a normal person just like you........thanks for your reply.

Sleeping alone can scare young people, but as an adult, you shouldnt be all that worried about sleeping alone because, if you went abroad for instance, say in the UK, people are very impersonal, you may have no one to even talk to during day, and at night you can be sure to sleep alone-so you had better learn to sleep alone as an adult

My husband works night so I am home a lot at night alone and once in awhile I do get scared and don't really want to be home alone so I end up finding myself staying up all night waiting on him then going to bed when he goes.
Wishes there was an easy fix but there isn't. You leave in a secure area. Could add some extra locks to your door and windows see if that helps.

oh no , it is really difficult when hubby has job in the night, besides this is not even good for your health to force yourself to be awake every night. You can lock doors dear, but what about the fear that is hidden inside us......how can we control our mind from not thinking scary things at that time.........we have to learn to be strong.........but it is difficult indeed. May be with time, we will learn to be more confident........

Unless you live in a high crime area or have some wicked enemies, you really have nothing at all to fear. Common sense tells you that if you locked the house the chances of someone picking your home to break in are pretty slim. And movie monsters don't exist, so laugh them off. It's best just to relax, unwind from your tiring day and fall into deep sleep. Sleep is a wonderful, peaceful thing, don't turn it into something that it's not. When I sleep I like it to be as dark as possible, all doors shut.

I am not afraid of external fears, it is all inside me.....so I like the way you said monsters don't exist....and you are right....lol. When I am not alone at home, I like to sleep in pitch dark room, but when I am alone...darkness scares me....lol........but once you get into deep sleep, then you really sleep peacfully.....Thanks for your reply.

I have been doing that since almost 5 years now. Its scary for others! More so because ours is a big three storey private house and keeping track of the whole house when parents are not there is quite a job. My friends say that I am a brave girl but what else someone can do but to gather enough courage to face it.

Hi mimpi dear.......why are you left alone at home.....you surely are a brave girl.
But in country like India , it is really dangerous for a young girl to live alone....I am sure you have good neighbours....I still feel your parents should not leave you alone at home........God Bless you.

OH! I am like you only. I just cannot sleep all alone in a house. It will be kind of severe punishment to me, if someone asks me to sleep in a house, that too at night, all alone. All sort of silly ideas keep coming in mind, if I am alone at night and every noise looks like as it coming from some human being sitting near by. Once I had to stay in a five star hotel, all alone in a room (in an another city). I was very tired and exhausted when I went to bed because I remained very busy through out the day due to official commitments. I thought that the moment I would touch the bed, I will go to sound sleep and Lo! and behold! nothing this sort of happen. I tried all tricks to go to sleep, watching TV, reading a magzine and what not, but I could not sleep whole night, though the room was bolted and secured from inside. I felt restless throughout the night and decided that I would never stay in a hotal all alone at night. (Please do not laught after reading all this....LOL!)

same here.. I cannot sleep alone. The thought of seeing ghosts, or someone might crash the door in the middle of the night is in my mind. I knew I have to cure this but I really dont want being left alone in the house. Thus, my mom tried to check me from time and time and make sure I have someone with me all the time.

Hello apsara ? yes I can sleep alone at night. my friends and family members would be amazed how strong I am but I guess it’s just because when I am alone I don’t entertain scary thoughts in my head. I am not the type of girl who would scream and squirm when the lights went out. But I scream when I see big rats. Yuck can’t stand them hehe
Anyway, If I am alone in the house, I just enjoy my time alone and the freedom to do anything I want at that moment. I also pray and rely on God’s guidance so any thoughts about ghosts or other frightening stuff are pushed away.

I am not bothered about falling asleep alone at night unless I have watched a scary movie, but then even if I know there is someone in the house I still feel like I can hear people breaking into the house. I know it is just my mind playing tricks, so I turn on the TV watch a nice comedy show or something and then go to sleep.

I don't have any trouble sleeping alone if I have to. But, I do have my dogs here so that helps. My shepherd is good at keeping watch over the place.

I wish i got the chance to watch an extremely scary movie when i am alone at night. But unfortunately i have not get the chance. I have been alone several times at night but there was no horror movie.
I think it would be a fun if i am alone & watch a horror movie that is very scary.

Hey,apsara,I am not afriad of sleeping alone in my home at all and in fact I do it almost every night.I just check my door and windows to see whether they have been locked and if so I will go to bed and fall asleep quickly.I think you only need to be brave, apsara. You should believe that there is nothing can hurt you because there is your home and your bedroom.I was also afriad of ghost very much when I was a child but now I know ghost is fake and if I don't think about it during the night I won't feel fear.So just be brave,ok?Wish you sleep tight this night.

There are times at night when I do feel a bit uncomfortable and will wake up to any small or any kind of noise. If I watch a scary movie before going to bed, I definitely will have trouble sleeping alone at night. :-) Try to avoid watching any scary movies before going to bed. I know what you mean about sleeping alone at night can be scary, probably more so for a lady than a guy. Another thing that I do to try and overcome this fear is not to eat anything for an hour or two before going to bed. Eating before going to bed gives me some really bad nightmares and usually takes a while for me to actually fall asleep.

Hi AshleyHasan.........believe me I agree with you. And I am sure we all say our short prayer before we go to sleep and that is why we finally sleep in peace.......Sincere prayer before sleep is the best and I am happy you said it........Thanks for your reply and have a nice day.

It's been sometime since I last slept alone at home. There's usually someone at home when I am at home.
I remember the last time I had to sleep alone at home. I was very tired so I didn't think much and I fell asleep immediately.
I'm not scared of the unseen. I believe they exist but I also believe they do not usually disturb us.
FEAR= False Emotions Appearing Real.
Try to tell yourself that and I'm sure your can overcome fear.

Luckily we have two dogs and two cats so I can never be 100% alone in the house. I have a harder time sleeping without another person in the house, but I can do it. Normally just read until I fall asleep. This is after double checking to make sure that I have locked every single available lock found anywhere in the house. It's taken a few years to get to that point. About 8 years ago, I would have never been able to sleep alone in the house, but I've gotten more comfortable in my ability to protect myself should the need arise.

I have no problem sleeping alone at night, but I would make sure that I didn't watch anything scary. I can be a bit jumpy after scary movies and have a vivid imagination. You just need to retrain yourself to feel peaceful before going to sleep. Watch or read something that makes you feel good and happy!
