Preparing budget for home !!!

Do you prepare a budget for your household expenses monthly? How close do you stick to your budget? Have you ever gone overboard with the expenses?
Any suggestions / tips for preparing a good monthly household budget?

We have a budget. And we pretty much stay inside of it. The only thing we really do is go out to eat. I suppose once in a while we go a bit overboard. Set a monetary limit for each expense. Then try to stick with it.
