How many states make up the United states of America.

We have 50 states. We also have Ameican territories, like Puerto Rico and Somoa? But they are not established states. I believe the largest state would be either Alaska, (my first choice,) or possibly Texas? I think in terms of actual land size it is Alaska, though. The richest state would be a toss up between California or New York state? I beliieve it is California. The have HIGE amounts of cash to work with in their budget.
