I love Animals. I love watching Animal Planet and National Geographic.
Whenever I watch the animals on TV or in real life, I always wish I can understand what they are saying and why they are doing the things they are doing.
No matter how much time scientists devote to the study of animals, we can never understand animals 100% unless if we can understand what they are saying (their Language).
Of course, there are many animals I wish I can learn their Language but if I can only choose one, the animal that I would love to understand the most is Dog.
Recently, I watched a Japanese movie called 10 promises to my dog. This is a very sentimental movie and I cried a lot. It really makes me want to have a dog.
Dog is considered by many as Man's Best Friend. I always wonder if the reverse is true. Do Dogs think we are their Best Friend too? Are we treating them well? Are we sensitive enough to them?
So, if you can choose to Understand the Language of 1 Animal, which one will it be? Why?

If I could understand the language of any animal it would
have to be cats! I love my cats so much. I have one that I
taught to say "mama". I know what you're saying! I have
witnesses! They are shocked at first because he says it so
clearly. He comes right up to me and says mama so he knows
that it means me! I was in the bathroom one night and he
followed me in and started his cat talk and I asked him to
say mama and after a few times he just repeated it and I got
so excited he just kept saying it just like a little kid would!
So I really wish I could have a conversation and understand
what they really are saying to me. I can sort of figure out
their winning and squeaking. Luna is the mama cat and Star is
the squeaky cat. He just makes his own cat sounds and I have
to guess. When you know your pets it becomes second nature.
But how truly great it would be to really be able to understand
what they have to say!

Oh, by the way I just read the post about cats not coming
when you call and not knowing their names. I've had 5
cats throughout the years and they all knew their names
and no matter how independent they were all came when called.
They didn't always come right away, but they would get there
eventually.lol

I have never really tried to understand the language of animals, may be its just because i didnt get enough of time to take up that research. I dont really like cats But i like to watch cats and their various behaviors, i have done quite a bit cat following to learn how they react to various situations. May be, when i get time i'll try and learn the language of dogs, coz i feel it will be worth it!

I used to like them when i was a kid... but now i know cats are mean, thats why i changed my stance.... watching them is some thing i developed when i was a kid so the habit still continues... hope that explains the anomaly!

yes you are right we can't understand an animal fully unless we know its language which is not possible in the real life ... if i get a chance i will try to understand the language of dogs too because they are the most fascinating animals that are within our reach everyday our lives ... i have seen dogs understand humans very well but i wish i could understand them too.

When you say understand the language of one animal, you mean to be able to listen to the barks and know what they mean?
And then be able to bark back and talk to the dog?
Or do you mean trying to read the minds of what the animal is thinking?
Well, If it was the first option, I probably would choose the dog as well. This is one animal that we always get in touch with. As well as other domestic pets.
Otherwise, the gorilla would be the animal of choice.
Heh heh heh...

Well, If I can read minds, I would start with people too.
A good few minds I have in mind to read. To know and decipher their mechanism of thoughts.
So that I can explain and understand why these people behave the way they do!
Like the way Professor Xavier does in the X-Men eh?

I also love watching Animal Planet and National Geographic! In fact the other drama kind of shows are usually too angsty and violent for me.
I guess I would like to know what terrapins and hedgehogs are saying. maybe also squirrels. these are my favourite animals. they are so intelligent. oh yes and maybe dolphins as well. i watched a dolphin show recently and it was really impressive. I love the way they can just coordinate and are so good at stunts!
I'm not that fascinated by dogs and not a dog lover either. but i know people who really love their dogs. recently it was also in the papers that during a recession people would rather starve themselves than starve their dogs.

Yea. Dolphins are very complex animals too. They have complex relationships like human beings too. I think they are as difficult to understand as human beings.
I think I am one of those people who rather feed the dogs than myself. But of course, I would feed my family first, then the dog.

First i would like to choose birds.Yes.I saw them fling in the sky everyday and jumping and singing in the trees.I am really wanna to ask them how they are feeling when fling, where do they sleep in every night, and why they are so scared to be with human, why not playing with me as i won't hurt them.
And i also like to learn the cat language.I think sometimes i know what they are saying. But i need to know all about them.I like them, these little cute friends.

Hie Pooh, this is interesting. I would love to hear the animals talk and could understand them and what a wonderful world it would be by thenIt would be so wonderful if mankind could be able to understand the language of a dog one day. I guess by then they would come up with several dialects as different types of dogs
I would really like to understand the language of dolphins as it is now they are so many break through already. They are so friendly and adorable creatures. They would certainly be more resourceful to the mankind in near future. I wish I could just pet their heads one day and swim along with them...lol
Cheers and happy posting.

Yea. The size of a dolphin's brain is almost as big as ours. I watched a documentary before and it mentioned that dolphins are highly intelligent and complex animals too. They are in many ways similar to humans. They have complex relationships with one another too.

Hello poohgal,
I would choose cats as I have two of them male and female but sometimes I do understand their language, when my female wants feeding she sit and stare at me as if she is telling me she wants her food, there are so many little things that I do understand what they want.

It's indeed a very majestic and beautiful animal.
I watched a documentary a few days ago on tigers. One male tiger attacked a human because the human 'disturbed' its mating with a female tiger. Actually, that man only happened to walk past. Thank goodness the man didn't die.

I'd like to know the language of dogs too. coz i love dogs very much. i wanna be their friends. if i knew their language, i would like to share this ability with other people. it's better for the whole world to know dog languge. so that i could let my dogs do shopping for me. of course i should teach them how to bargain with the shopkeepers at first. lol.

I would choose to understand the dogs' language too. I have a dog here named Yoshii and I play with him a lot. I think I'd like to fully communicate with him since he can be there for me when no one is there to talk to. Besides, that would be freakin' cool! Hehe!

I would choose a bird, just so I could hear them talk about how it feels to fly. I always think how cool it is but I imagine to a bird it is just the normal, everyday routine. Still I would be curious how it would feel.
