I hate gardening, I love to see pretty flowers and beautifully tended gardens, and I always think to myself "right thats it this year I AM going to get out in the garden and make it beautiful" and so I went out there, and then I see it. It comes towards me, we are both minding our own business and we see each other and stop, facing each other, then I scream and go running off into the house and he runs and hides in the first place he can find. On this occasion my children found him under a peg and I got them to take a photo and this is the reason I do not like gardening. I mean look at it, WHAT THE HECK IS IT? I know we have spiders, hundreds this year in fact but this is gross and we have loads of them too. I have never seen one like this, it has 6 legs and when it was walking calm as you like towards me it looked like a beetle at first but it is not. I do have to point out that it was BIGGER than it looks in this photo, honestly. It was massive! Does anyone know what it is? Are you like me when it comes to gardening or are you at one with the bugs in the ground and around us? What is the grossest bug you have seen in your garden?

Well, atleast you went out there and got the fear of bugs out of the way. Now you are ready to do some serious gardening.

I do understand your sentiment. It's actually funny to hear that. In my case, I am not really afraid of bugs and other insects. So I can manage to do gardening and planting. I remembered that we actually had a gardening subject when I was in High School and it was fun.

Grubs. The typical white slimy wiggly grub. Ewwww! I find many strange spiders and bugs. But I never let them bother me. Most are good for the gardens actually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

LMAO!!!! It is not massive. It is a bug and a small one at that. Maybe you should start with a more controlled enviornment. Get a pot or two. Add some potting soil that you can buy at the store. It does not have bugs. Add in some seeds or a plant. Water gently. I like to garden. I have a tiller to tear up the ground. I shovel, I rake and I hoe. I plant, water and weed. I harvest and enjoy eating the food that I have grown. I plant flowers that will come back every year so I don't have to plant them very often. I can always add more if I want.

Hi gemini, I understand how you feel...My cousin is like that...Anyway, I have seen a lot of bugs but It will not bother me, I will just hit it with the shovel...LOL! I hate worms also but as usual when they are on my way, I will kill them..LOL! I didn't love gardening when I was with my parents, My mom does and I just used to help her! When I got married, we tried to have a little garden and when we start having a lot of vegetable, few flowers and few fruits, I started to love it and swear that this is what I want every year!

LOL Rose, there are so many garden bugs that I wouldnt know where to begin!our garden is full of them, and if my grandaughter were here she would want a little tub, with some tissue laid in the bottom..for a bug duvet..and off she would go ..bug gathering..she is ace at it.I love to see a nice garden, and it honestly doesnt take a lot to make a garden look nice, ours at home is fairly small really, but we have shrubs and tubs and lots of bits of colour. But when you have kids its always a job to try to keep it tidy,as soon as you do something they are undoing it as fast as they can!!but if I were you I woouldnt be remotely worried about your new friend the bug..unless of course you have recently bought some bananas from a supermarket..but we wont go into that...just sit in your deckchair and enjoy life, bugs and all!!

Yes I remember your granddaughter being fond of the buggy things in life. Umm new friend, I don't think so LOL. I don't want to know about the bananas but I think I have a vague idea of what you are on about.

I don't think that bug would hurt you. WE have over here some big ones. But that looks quite harmless as are most. Its great to feel the soil slip through your fingers can't do it at the moment as it is so wet and cold here. But I look after my plants inside and the ones in my shadehouses. If you thought that was gross you should see our wetas. Big and even worse looking than you bug but still they wont hurt you.

I have never ever heard of worm leaves! I have heard of caterpillars, they turn into butterflys, so they could be the same thing.

Sorry I am late comming in here hun, I hate gardening too, its all the bending over and such that I hate. I have 3 herinated disks in my back so it is difficult for me to do for long periods of time. The bugs don't bother me so much unless they are centipeids, or brown recluse spiders. I have been bit by both. The spider caused me a scar that you can stick your pinkie finger in. The centipede bit me on my bottom and it hurt for about an hour!

Oh horrible. I am not sure if any spiders bite in UK but believe me I will not give them chance too! I hate them. I did not even know that centipedes bite either. I think that I will just stay out of the garden!!

Hello! Oh, the poor thing is not ugly. It is not disgusting, at least not for me. I just wouldn't like to touch it, hahaha, but as long as it stays in the garden, that's fine. You should fear the ugly worms with spikes around their bodies that will burn you when you touch them. They are disgusting. I can't imagine how would they turn into butterflies, such ugly monsters... They really are disgusting, specially when they are moving. I'd rather kill them than to leave them alive. But they don't make yell nor anything, I just see them and say: "How disgusting" and STOMP! Respectfully, Munhozmib.

the pic looks like a jumping spider.. but he sorta blends in with the rock really well so its hard to get a decent look at em. weve had scadsof them here this year too. some of them their bodies about the size of a quarter.. like litle mini tarantulas LOL and yes they gimme the creeps as well!! but i dont let em prevent me from getting into the dirt and enjoying makin a mess in my gardens. usually i just scoop em up with my trowel and fling them to the opposite side of the yard when they get a bit too close for comfort

Flip if he had jumped then I would have just had a coronary on the spot, gives me shudders just thinking of it. I could not scoop them up though, I just down tools and run off in the opposite direction!

..;chuckles;.. look at yerself in size comparison to this thing.. youre like what? 150 times BIGGER? it didnt attack you or try to eat yer face or anything.. as much as it gives ya the heebies, theyre harmless. just respect its space.. itll respect yers. if it comes inside YOUR domain (inside the house).. then squash it like the bug it is

We have plenty of bugs dear Rose, more than our fair share ,and as I told someone this morning my mother has some illegitimate slugs in her garden that have munched her marrow plant, and boy is she mad,Im not too bad in the garden,it the hedge belonging to the woman who gave birth to me that mearly finishes me off,the damn thing is full of hawthron and holly, its a great looking hedge when its first trimmed, but omg what a job it it,its about a meter wide, and I have to all but lay on top of the hedge with the cutter, one day im gooing to go home minus something, but hey ho,it might be my spare tyre.My garden is looking pretty ok at the mo here, its in bloom and ive just set some ornamental cabbage plants in little pots, they are on my bedroom window sill, and some have started to sprout,so im well chuffed.

The strangest , grossest bug I have seen out in my garden is some kind of grey bug that actually has claws like a scorpion or a crab. I still don't know what they are, I have seen 'them' twice. I do exactly what you did when it comes to creepy bugs. The just freak me out, especially when they can jump. I dont' mind the lady bugs and lightning bugs, and of course the butterflies, but that's it for me!
@gemini_rose (16264)

Oh yuck that sounds horrible, I would not like to see that at all! I can cope with the ladybirds, never had the lightening bugs though!
