Why would you lie to your girlfriend/boyfriend?

I am in the middle of writing a book which my friend and I thought this would be a nice topic to write about when one day she knew that her boyfriend was lying to her.
No one is perfect in this world, though sometimes we had that feeling that we are so good that we forget that we are humans, and we should not make mistakes. Some of us denies the fact that we sometimes do such thing as lie.
But "why" is the question. Why would you lie to someone you love or rather would you if you need to?Why? Or to some I want to ask you, WHY DID YOU LIE?

for me, sometimes, i lied to my boyfriend just to avoid confrontation and asks too many questions. Like for example, when he asked me where i was? i'm just going to tell i'm just at home but the truth was I was on my friend's house. So, he will not asked me what i'm doing there, what time I will go home and whose with me and so on.

Thank you for responding to my question. I am grateful that you gave me your opinion about doing so this kind of action. This will be very helpful in writing my book. Not that I want to justify that a bad thing can be a good thing at some point. I have this idea in mind that I want to understand why men specifically does lie even if they don't have to or even when they have all the opportunity to be honest.
Thanks a lot!

The only time I would lie is with how I'm feeling about something. If I don't think the truth will benefit our relationship or me, then a little white lie won't hurt. Sometimes their are things that I don't feel like sharing with anyone. And I think if it's not hurting anyone then it shouldn't matter.
