flat is world in net as well as your relationships

i've been in closet for years now. hibernating if i may say so. no serious/romatic relationships with the men for four years now and it's starting to manifest in some ways, in connecting with men. i always feel awkward. was so busy with work and have been spending my free time mostly by myself or in the net. but i'm wondering since we're in the age of information, most of us communicate with the help of technology, is it really true that the world is getting flatter and relationships can be access through the world of technology?
