School starts August 11th!! Whatever happened to..

It's scary isn't it?. I mean already it is time for school shopping. The time is just going by too fast for me. We start school the very next day after Labor Day and usually we don't have to start school until 2-3 days after Labor Day and guess what, the first day of school is going to be on a Friday...........give me a break!

It has. I was talking to someone about that just today. Simultaneously, some people are talking about year-round school while others suggest a 4 day school week. I suppose there is merit from all points of view. Some teachers say the kids lose their skills over an extended break.

Well he schools in our county starts August 6th this year. They got out in June 6th so they had 2 months vacation where I live.

Where I live, school has always started mid-August. They determine when school starts by pre-scheduled days off. Holidays, staff days, etc. They have a set amount of school days they need to maintain.

My son got out in the middle of May and is going back On August 14th. I remember not going back to school until September when I was a kid, but we also stayed in school longer. We did not get out until June.

I feel the same way. My got out the first part of June, but will return August 28th. I think this is the shortest summer break they've ever had.

Wow. My kids go back the first week of September, and have been out since the last week of June. That's pretty much the way it's always been around here.

That's a pretty long vacation. I live in New Jersey, the school year ends the last week in June and begins the Thursday after Labor Day. Your child has a three month vacation. Here is about two months and a week, it is the equvalent of 10 weeks.

In my point of view its alright to cut vacation time shorter a bit but not too much. I think it really isn't that big of a deal because when I have a school vacation mostly end up wishing I was doing something at school with my friends. School isn't just about studying anymore, its about bonding with friends while learning and developing one's self. School has been more flexible than it was when I was a child and I must say that I like the change since its a lot more fun now.
