while they say you should use an egg timer to gauge how long kids brush their teeth, why not use a music box? why not get kids flavoured toothpaste, that usually helps too. there are some pretty cool toothbrushes out there too. let her pick the one that she wants. those are just a few ideas...hope they help.

I think the music box is the best one I have heard so far! She is 4, so she has been brushing her teeth for 2 years now, but it has turned into a boring thing for her that is a battle for us.
Thanks!

Perhaps make it an activity that the two of you do together, if you haven't already. Young children look to their parents as role models and as a source of what they should and should not be doing. If children see their parents doing something, then they might imitate their parents and do that as well. This is a chance to positively influence your child simply by having them watch you. Also, I think that there is something that a child can swoosh around in their mouth to show them where the plaque is. I am not sure if it is harmful or if it is approved or anything, but it is something to look in to. It turns their mouth blue or something and then they have to brush it all out, I think. I have only seen commercials, so I do not know exactly. Perhaps do something fun together after she brushes her teeth. Make her feel like she will be able to get something out of it if she does. What does your daughter like to do that is a quick activity? It might encourage her to brush her teeth. Start only doing it with her after she brushes her teeth, and not any other time. If she refuses to brush her teeth that day, don't do the activity. But, make sure that it is something that she really loves to do, that she will definitely miss if it is gone.

They have those new toothbrushes called tooth tunes or something like that, and it plays a little song while your child brushes their teeth (I think they are power heads too) and when the song is over, it's been 2 minutes or 3 minutes, something long enough to add up to a good brushing. That might be a fun little incentive. I got my daughter a battery operated toothbrush because we have a rechargeable set for us. I like that it's easier for her to brush without as much help from me with the rotating brush head. We also do it in the shower, and she has her own pink mouthwash - fluoride rinse for kids.

I have a couple of ideas. You can have her look in the mirror as she brushes her teeth. I think kids like to feel independent and brush their own teeth. My son likes to brush his teeth when he has the chance.
You could also maybe sing a song, and when the song is over then she can be done brushing her teeth.

what i did when i trained my daughter to brush her teeth is i bought her toothpaste for kids we have a lot of it in a grocery store. then, i bought her a nice toothbrush for kids also. you see, kids loves toys and to make them trained in brushing their teeth regularly give them something that will attract them. then, while you brush her teeth make it like your playing. while you teach the proper way of brushing her teeth. you have to have more patience.

I actually used the scare tactic on my daughter. If you don't brush your teeth then you will get cavities and ugly teeth and then you will have kids making fun of you because of your teeth. She know's the routine and sticks by it every day and enjoys going to the dentist as she know's he will make her teeth nice and keep them that way. To make it more "fun" for kids, well I've never had to do that with my daughter but try puting on their favorite song and tell them they must brush from the beginning of the song until the end. Get cute tooth brushes and toothpaste they enjoy tasting. There are certain things that they just have to do for hygene and telling them the scary truth sometimes helps too!

how old is your daughter? my son is two and a half years old. pictures appears as my avatar. i my wife starts to brush his teeth since the first tooth came out. at first she just used silicon brush. but when he turned one my wife used a kiddie bruch for children who are just a year old. now that he is two my wife brushes his teeth using kiddie tooth paste that we all love to smell. har har har. my sons tooth paste is in cookies and cream flavor. i can see he is having fun brushing his teeth. though he dont know yet to spit my wife just put a tiny pea size of the tooth paste. you have to start brushing their teeth younger so they can get used to it. welcome to the wonderful world of mylot amandalyn

You could try getting her to choose her tootbrush and toothpaste when you go to buy these and if you can find those with her favourite characters, even better. If you can also get her a special tumbler for her to rinse her mouth with
I also find that with mine, it is easier if we do it together because she will brush her teeth quick enough than me having to tell her a few times.. So if you wake up around the same time, try to do it together as this will be fun for her

I've posted similar discussion few days ago coz I am also having problems when it comes to cleaning my toddlers teeth. Some said, it's better that you do it together, you and kid. That way, he'd see how it's done at the same time you'll have time to spend together, as well. Make the brushing more interesting, as they say.

My kids (3 and 4) love to brush their teeth. They both have their own step stools (Lightening McQueen and Dora), toothbrushes (Power Rangers and Pooh) and their own toothpaste (Batman and Dora). We let them pick their tootbrushes and toothpaste because then they are excited. We also have bubblegum flavored kids mouthwash and they love swishing. We make it a fun thing everynight before we go to bed. Also, they want to be like daddy because I always do it.
