My husband had an eye exam today. I decided to drive him just in case he was unable to drive himself home afterward. It was a good thing I did, he could barely see let alone keep his eyes open, even with the silly plastic sunglasses they gave him. I guess the drops they put in his eyes kept them dilated which made it difficult to see in bright light. I was a little upset with the women in the office that told him he would be just fine to drive himself home! Has anyone had a similar eye exam and been able to drive themselves home afterward??

I have an eye exam each year with drops to dilate the pupils. When I make my appointment, I am told that I should not drive until the pupils have returned to normal size and, just before they put the drops in, they check that I'm not going to drive home. I've been able to see well enough to walk home afterwards if I haven't had anyone to give me a lift.

I did have that type of eye exam before and was told that I would not be able to drive. However, I had no vision problems at all afterwards. Although it seems to be a common problem and the person scheduling the appointment should have notified him of that. They make themselves liable if somebody would drive, get vision problems, and then causes an accident.

Didn't they give him drops to counter act the ones to dilated his eyes? Those usually work fairly well although I have had a couple of times where it took some time for my eyes to get all the way back to normal. However, I have always been able to drive after the exam. I couldn't drive after I lasik in spite of so many doctors saying you can, but my doctor drove me home in my car and his office assistant followed in his car to get him.
