I graduated from grade school without having a clear answer to the question of our art teacher. She asked once, what's the difference between purple and violet. People sometimes use them interchangeably. Well i think there is certain distiction between them.

This question that you posted stood out to me because my favorite color happens to be purple. Now I don't think I ever pondered too much about the distinction of the colors violet and purple. I do agree that people can use them interchangeably.
I would have to say there is a certain distinction between them when the question arises which is now.
Just like there is a distinction between a lighter color of purple which could be lilac or lavender in my estimation, there would seem to be a difference between purple and violet. My husband is saying that purple is darker. I tend to agree.
