friendlies how much good do you think they do.my own opinion from the spectators point is they only give the players a chance to get to know each others runs again and as most are played against teams in lower divisions you cant really tell how good or poor your teamis going to be come the big kick off.
from refereeing them they are very poor games as nobody wants to put in tackles so as a ref we dont really get up to any kind of speed of the games until the 2/3 week of the season.allowing that some will say we never get up to speed that dont count.
opinions please

Pre season friendlies are a good opportunity for the coach to analyze the team's overall performance, to see how good a certain player fits inside the team's mechanism.
It's true that matches against teams from lower divisions are not very relevant, but there are also friendlies against powerful teams. These friendly matches against better teams can show how good the team can perform, and, if the team wins, it gives a good morale boost for the official games.
For example, my favorite football team, Steaua Bucharest, played a friendly game last week against AS Roma. It was just a friendly game, but both teams played good football, and, the most important, Steaua won 3-1, which is a very good result for them and it gave the team good morale for the following matches.

It give the players a chance to get to know the new signings in a competitive game and helps get their match fitness up ready for the new season. From a spectators point of view there is very rarely any good football to watch as the players obviously don't want to get injured before the seaason starts.
I don't mind them but wish that they would pick teams that are comparable, not play lower divisions although I suppose it makes money for the smaller team.

Hello, Foxfire1875!
Last week, my favorite team, Steaua Bucharest, played a friendly match against AS Roma, in Bucharest. Even if it was just a friendly match, it brought 20 000 people to the stadium, who wanted to see Steaua playing against ROMA! Even if Totti was injured and couldn't play, he was long time applauded when he took his seat between the officials.
This match was also the first when a shop was opened inside the stadium, where people could buy official shirts, and even order an official shirt with their own name on the back. The shop was a tremendous success, the officials reported record sales, over 50 000 euro, even if it was just a friendly game!
I just wanted to point out that when they play with famous teams, the small clubs have a lot to win from the friendly match. Of course that the value gap shouldn't be very large, or the friendly won't be very useful from a tactical point of view.

It does bring in much needed cash indeed stvasile but I guess I'm still depressed after last Thursdays match, Hibs 0 Barca 6. That was definitely a case of too large a value gap and also ruined Hibs unbeaten record against Barca, okay the last time we played was the 50's.
