What is the best calorie burning excersize?

I've just found out that jumping rope can burn up to 1000 calories an hour, not that anyone can do it for an hour.. but I've yet to see an activity that burns more calories than that. Even running at top speed will only burn 800 calories an hour. Think I'm going to go buy a jump rope.

For me, swimming... though you can't noticed that you are actually perspiring... YOU ARE STILL DEFINITELY BURNING CALORIES as well! Why did I choose this exercise? Simply because this is one of those exercises that you can enjoy.

Swimming burns at most 800 calories an hour, still not as good as jumping rope.

YES! but i still enjoy doing it than tiring myself jumping over and over again. In swimming, you can learn different strokes that can make your exercise differ from the first one you know.

Swimming tires me out pretty quick and makes me very hungry... although I have no idea what jumping rope does because I haven't done it in so long, lol.

Wow! I can not remember the last time I jump roped. I use to love playing those silly jump rope games in grade school. I wonder if I still can even jump rope! lol. I prefer to walk an hour in the evening. I really do not know how many calories it burns. I just like it. Have fun with the jump roping!

Walking at a slow pace will burn about 400 calories an hour. The faster you go, the more you burn. You can look it up online. I use a calorie counting website, it keeps track of all my calories in and out. www.caloriecount.about.com

And a good pair of shoes for support! That's essential. The big deal for me when I was doing jump rope was that my bra was not supportive enough. Had to use a sports bra. And the shoes are essential to prevent foot injuries. Best of luck. When I lose another twenty pounds I might try this out for myself again!

Swimming in water can use uo over 600 calories an hour and I LOVE to swim! And the reason I like it over other exercises is because it exercises the entire bdy without causing joint issues later!

Yes swimming is a good excersize, but it still doesn't burn the most calories.

Jumping rope definitely burns a good deal of categories and gets your blood pumping. It's a great way to warm up before you do something more strenuous like biking or running, or even transitioning into strength training. I've found that running for periods of 30 minutes straight or more is the best calorie burner for me. I burn about 500 calories over 30-35 minutes or so. Another good calorie burner is biking for about 40 minutes, it's less exhausting then running and I tend to burn the same amount of calories, maybe 50-75 less, but it's still a good amount!

Jumping rope sounds good. The same benefit might come from jumping jacks (no rope required!). I don't know the numbers of calorie burning, but rebounding on a mini trampoline is supposed to be a very good exercise. I also agree with the person who talked about swimming, although I'm not a very strong swimmer. I find that because the water is soothing and you're not sweating I can keep at it a lot longer, which is important. I have seen some stuff in the sporting goods store designed for exercising in the pool but I don't actually have a pool (we go to my mother in law's) so I don't want to invest in that.
