in a family, everybody who can work should contribute to the finances.it is not an obligation, but helping out should be done sincerely.in hard times, all family members who can help financially should help.it will not benefit not just one member, but all family members.in tough financial crisis, family members should help out one another.

I'm a single mother. I earn the only income for my household. If I sat around and waited for my useless ex-husband to provide for my family, we'd be broke and starving out in the street.
There's nothing wrong with females contributing to the household income. It actually gives them a sense of contribution and pride rather than a sense of entitlement that everyone else should owe them a comfortable life.

We have 4 people of working age in my home - My husband is the only one that works outside the home - his money supports us. I work from home selling things online - that is our money for life enrichment. My mom doesn't need to work and my 16 year old daughter is encouraged to work from home until she has balanced her school and home chores and then if she would like to get a job outside the home we will allow it. As long as there is enough money to live it is not essential for everyone to work. I prefer that the women work from home - I'd prefer if dh worked from home. I do think that building a home business is a very useful skill, especially for my daughters who may need to be home to take care of the house and children as adults.
