Today my world has been shaking. We had an earthquake this morning and and it was 5.4 and did damage. Nobody was seriously hurt, but several people had items fall on them. We lost our power for a short amount of time. It was terrible, but am fine.
How was your day? Anything exciting to share?

I'm sure it has to be hard to remain calm during this type of situation. I know my DH would be yelling at me to calm down, etc.

I have noticed the articles on web sites all don't agree about the size of the earthquake. Its interesting to see what people really know. Thanks for the reply.

Well, I really don't need anymore exciting news, as had enough yesterday. Today is quiet just the way I would prefer. Thanks for the reply.

I heard about that on the news and thought of all my friends here and other message boards that live in CA. I'm glad you're okay. You couldn't pay me enough to live in California! Earthquakes, drought, fire...it used to be a wonderful place but lately seems to have all manner of natural disasters. I hope the cycle stops soon! Such a beautiful state to have such things happen, it's a shame.

We are dealing with a lot in the last few years. I'm amazed when people rebuild in the same area. Thanks for the reply.

I have friends who live near Anaheim, and he said that their house shook. Their swimming pool had water to splash out and something fell from an armoire. But they escaped any damage, otherwise. He said he did move to the doorway, though. Here in Alabama, thought it was only hot. Late this afternoon, it began to thunder lots and the trees began to say with the wind. But the rain we thought we were about to get never came.

I had water on the floor from my fish tanks, but used my water vacuum and cleaned it up easily. I was sure it would come in handy, as this isn't our first earthquake. Thanks for the reply.

WOW !
you must live in southern california.
i lived in san francisco for fifteen years
and i sure experienced more than my share of these.
did you feel dizzy right before it happened?
that's the only way i could anticipate them.
even the after shocks were scarey!
you never knew
if it would let lose into a big one again.
my absolute worst one was being in an elevator.
i was about 20 floors up.
some friends and I were going to a fancy restaurant.
the lights went off.
we felt like we were banging against the elevator shaft.
made you feel like the cable would break !

I'm in Southern California. This isn't the biggest I have experienced; however, it scared me anyway. It felt like an amusement ride that you never want to get on again. Thanks for the reply.

I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt, as several people had items fall on them. We had a few broken items, but won't miss them. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, we shook right along with you, Fishmomma. Actually, it was more like riding a wave which took 27 seconds to move on. My daughter didn't feel it until about 10 minutes later. She might have just felt the aftershock. My son was spending the week with a friend who lives 10 minutes away from . . . guess where??? Yep, Chino Hills, the epicenter. I'm glad you're okay. We didn't lose power or phone service but for 27 seconds it was pretty shaky. At least the brains at Cal Tech have learned something else from today shake. Did you know they will soon have something in place to pre-warn us that an earthquake is coming? Mmmmmm. I guess they'll at least have a few minutes to let everyone know it's coming. Anyway, try to have a peaceful evening and a better tommorrow, my friend.

Our young children are fish and they didn't take it well at all. My adult daughter wasn't bothered at all. She is worried about the fish kids, who were cleaned last night and today received their favorite food. They are looking a little better today.

Several members think I have small children and my daughters are adults. In my house, the fish are our small kids and are spoiled like many of my friends spoil their cats and dogs with toys.

Yes, I saw the headline on Yahoo and heard about it on Fox News. That is when I called my parents who live in the San Gabriel Valley, where I grew up, to make sure they were alright.
My parents home, where I grew up, had some glass items break. My Mom was shaken up a bit, but she was not frightened. She actually thought is like a rollercoaster ride.
Now, I am just waiting for the Hayward fault to break loose where I live in NorCal.
I guess the epicenter was in Chino Hills.

Your correct Chino Hills. It did feel like a roller coaster ride and hope to never ride it again. I hope its our last larger one.

I was really shaken, but the fish took it worse than me. The kids keep looking at me and shaking, as they don't know why it keeps moving. We have sure had a lot of aftershocks.

My day started out with a knock on my door, one of my neighbors looking for my son. He had a dog with him and asked if I wanted a 'free' dog. When I saw the dog, I already knew him, whenever he got out of his yard, he always came here and played with my kids. ( the former owner gave him to my neighbor, who couldn't keep him)
This is the same dog that my son told me he wanted, I was so excited to be able to get the dog for him.
My day cannot compare what you have went through today, I am glad to hear that a Mylot pal is safe and sound.
I did see some pictures of damage out there on the tv, I'm glad it was a mild one.
Have a good night !

It was a mild one, but still several people sadly were hurt. I hope the ground stops moving soon, as I feel like I'm moving standing still. Thanks for the reply.

I heard about this earlier and didn't get to read about it until about 30 minutes ago. Glad to hear you are okay.
We were in California back in November and that was a big concern of ours. Then when I read that Disneyland was temporarily shut down. We stayed at the park. How are far are you from there? I was reading that people in Las Vegas felt the quake.

I'm not far from where it happened. Its a good thing it wasn't on the weekend as that mall is packed with people and somebody would have been badly hurt. I told my husband we aren't going to the mall anytime soon. Thanks for the reply.

I don't blame you! I was watching one of the morning news shows and they were talking how Caltech last week said that there was a good change for a strong earthquake in the next so many years (can't remember the exact number).
You and your family are in my prayers.
