Mountain Climbers--Do you think they are crazy?

My husband and I were watching this program that people were mountain climbing. My husband automatially said that those people had to be crazy. Now the way I see it is they are not crazy but just like to be challenged at what they do. I think it would be fascinating to climb a mountain. It would be the challenge of a lifetime. How do you look at mountain climbing? Do you think that people who do this are nuts or do you say that they are just looking for a good challenge? Also given the chance would you go and climb a mountain?

Mountain climbers aren't crazy, just higher thinkers. I've climbed mountains before and it was invigorating to reach the top. Now I haven't climbed any famous peaks but there is something about the challenge, and once you reach the top it feels so good to know that you can do it as long as you're determined to make it to the summitt.

To me although I have never climbed a mountain it seems to me it is the challenge of reaching the top--man against nature. I never have looked at mountain climbers as crazy. Just because a person (my husband) doesn't understand why someone does something doesn't make them crazy. I think it would be neat to climb a mountain.

I think there's something about mountain climbing that makes people want to be engaged to. It's this feeling of reaching the top of the mountain.. after trials and challenges along the way. It's this feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment that motivates people to climb the mountain. I actually asked that question to myself once.. but it's easy to be fascinated by mountain climbers but once you're the one doing it, it's really a matter of hard work and perseverance to get to the top. If given the change, sure I would.. it's my dream to really climb a mountain and experience the thrill and adventure along the way.

Your whole response is so true. I also think these kind of people like to see how far they can drive themselves. I have watched programs where people are climbing a mountain and you can see that it is hard work. But also at the end of the mountain climb they will tell you it is so satisfying to have succeeded and that they feel a sense of elation that is unbelievable. I hope your dream comes true.

Hi gberlin,
I may be slow in answering but you can be sure I always like to get back to people who respond to my discussions. I think that is cool that your son is a mountain climber. I wouldn't mind mountain climbing myself just once. That may be all it would take to cure me of wanting to have a go at it. I do know that that is something that takes a lot of work to get ready to do it. One of those things that in my younger days I might have tried it given the right situation.

I don't think it is crazy I think it is a great hobby or sport, and can even provide good exercise too.

I think it would be cool to climb a mountain. Of course, I am not talking about now. At 58 I don't think I would be up for the work involved getting to the top of the mountain. You have to be in great shape and I am not even close.

Hi angelgirl,
I was smiling as I read your response. Each person has their own way of looking at things. I don't think these people are crazy. I think that they get such joy out of life that this is a way to challenge themselves. Tobie is of your opinion. But you don't have to understand something a person does to realize just because they do that something doesn't make them crazy. Just a lover of life and they have a different way of showing their love of life than someone else.

I agree with you just because you decide to climb a mountain dosn't mean your nuts! I can definently say that I would not go mountain climbing. I have enough challenges in my life, like potty training a three year old boy (just acomplished besides ocaisional bed wetting) and having six kittens and a very irratable mamma cat in my house. I figure that mountain climbers must have either been boring to start, or grew to be boring, and needed somthing to shake up their lives. Not me im stressed enough with out trying to find time to climb a mountain.

I like your post. It sounds like you have enough going on in your life without adding mountain climbing to it.

At 61 years old my husband and his 16 year old son climbed Bell Rock, a really famous rock in Sedona Arizona. I'll try and find a picture of it, to attach or you. They did it in one afternoon, and had a really great time. I walk wih a cane and can't see where I'm going hal the tie, so I never would have made it.

That is a good picture you posted. I like to learn about different places and so I went to the search engine and put in Bell Rock in Sedona, Arizona. There were all kinds of pictures and they sure were wonderful pictures to see what Bell Rock looks like. I posted a picture also of Bell Rock in Sedona, Arizona.

We share the same opinion.I hate programs featuring this mountain climbers. And so what if they reached the top of Mt. Everest.Did they discover anything that can improve humanity. They climbed the mountain for the TV station to gain popularity.Maybe that is what they are after.I also think they are nuts.Nothing to do in their life so they climbed the mountain to show others they are doing nonsence
