Have you ever traveled or go on a vacation without the kids? Just you and your partner. If you ever do so, do you worry about them all the time?misses them all the time? calling back home to check on them constantly? I am not a mother yet, but I would like to hear your opinions.

I did travel without the kids, but they were all teenagers by then. My advice would be that if you cannot travel without calling home to check on them constantly you probably should not travel without them

I see. So you waited till they are grown and take care of themselves first, before traveling without them. Thanks for your response :-)

No, actually, we waited until my wife thought they were old enough to care for themselves. I'd have gone without them much earlier

We don't travel without the kids - we know that the time will come when they are all busy and older and we will have plenty of time to do so. We do find time to have coffee on the balcony - or watch a movie when they are in bed - candlelight tea at midnights etc. My dh works shift work so we get lots of private time in to keep our relationship strong - call each other when he is working - and email each other. I think daily respect - being kind - enjoying each other is way more important than time away. I know all we would do is talk about the house, kids etc.. if we were away so for now that is our priority. Our kids have stayed at Bed and Breakfasts with us and had their own room connected to ours - have gone on vacations with us - and grandma has watched them for a few hours - so there are ways to travel together but still find private time.

I think you did very well in managing the whole thing. You keep the kids nearby yet you can have private time with your partner.

My boyfriend and I went away last weekend, just overnight, and I felt so guilty leaving the kids at home! You need to get away sometimes, but that doesn't stop that maternal instinct!

Although I am not a mother yet. But I think I know what you mean. You see, I have a pug. And the first time I left her really alone, cos my family, my then bf and I was going elsewhere, I felt a bit guilty and I worry alot.
