Who does your grocery shopping in your household, you or your partner?

Hi,
My hubby always does the weekly grocery shopping in our household.
For one thing, I have a thing about going out in public places alone around a bunch of people and only do it when I have to. I always get the list together of what I need and so does he. Then he takes my list and makes one list of all the items we need at the grocery store. Sometimes if I need a new item or something he hasn't bought before, I'll either describe it really well or go on the internet and print a picture of it for him.
He's really good about getting the right things we need and he can carry those loads of groceries much better than I can. When he gets home, I put all the groceries away where they belong. It seems to work for us.
What about you?

Hi Ruby,
Thanks for your response!
I have to admit that my hubby is a very good shopper too. He says that occasionally some things jump in the cart. always some types of goodies or sometimes something special for me. He's such a sweetie!

I do the grocery shopping, I rather shop without my husband. He is like a child, I wind up with all this stuff that he doesn't even eat after it gets home. Sometimes when we go together he will bring an item to me and say, can I have this
When I make out a small list he will go to the market for me. He always makes sure that he gets exactly what I ask for.

Sounds like you have it all under control!!
I go with my hubby every once in awhile and he just hates when I do. lol I'm the one that takes things to him and says "Can I have this?" He usually says yes, but I can tell I'm just a nuisance.

Normally it's me that does the grocery shopping, he usually just wants to relax when he gets home from work, so he'll tell me 'I'll buy if you fly' lol A little less than half the time we both go, and end up spending way more than when it's just me. Every once in a while he'll go on his own, and I can always count on some little surprise for me, that he thought I would like, whether it's something for dinner, snack, or flowers. I'm usually the one that puts up all the groceries, no matter who went to the store.

Living alone, I do all my own shopping. However, when my hubby was still with me, I did all the shopping. I just plain out love to shop. He learned quickly that I did not like to have help with the shopping. He did ALL the cooking (he was an excellent cook) so he would make a list of what he had planned for the next week's meals & I did the shopping. I love walkin thru the store daydreaming about how I might use the various items. Maybe I need to join Window Shoppers Anonomous

Hi Marissa,
Thanks for your response!
Well that's where your different than me girl. I hate to shop. I guess I just hate the people all around. I did go to Walmart the other night about 2am and browsed some. (got my PedEgg too, I'll let you know how it works) It is kind of neat when you don't go shopping every week to see what new things have come out.
I did have to do my own grocery shopping back when hubby was on the road as a truck driver. Of course, I didn't have to buy that much then, just for me, and I didn't cook much back then either.

You sound like me: not wanting to be in public places alone..
I don't mind going if hubby goes too, I just don't like going alone.

We do ours as a joint project. My wife is the bread winner and I am the one whom knows what is or isn;t needed. We take our daughter ever so often feeding her family as well. Hee hee. Not that she needs it but we shop Sam's Club buying in bulk so we spilt with her a lot at our exspense.

Hi Grandpa Bob!
Thanks for your response!
Sam's is a very good place to stock up on bulk items. We would go there once a month to stock pile many paper items. Since he moved out, we've noticed that we don't go thru stuff as quick. (like toilet paper, he must have used a ton of it LOL) So, we only go once in awhile.

We normally go together for buying grocery items. If one of two items are to be picked up from the market, then I venture alone or she would go, as per the circumstances. She makes the list at the end of the month and one fine day, before the month ends, we go gether to collect our monthly grocery.

I hate to shop with such a passion. I've never liked it but have had to do it numerous times but never got a good feeling from doing it or having to do it. Am I weird? Your call on that one. lol Yes, I'm all woman but that's one trait I don't carry. lol Now on the other hand, hubby loves to shop so he does most of the shopping for us. He would love for me to go with him but most times I don't.

I am the one that always does the grocery shopping in my household. My boyfriend HATES grocery shopping, but I love it. I love to just browse up and down the isles and find the best deals. I also like to go in the afternoons on weekdays because it is not as busy as other times.
Most of the time I know not to even bother asking my boyfriend to run up to the grocery store for me really quick or even to do a longer grocery trip. SOMETIMES, if I bribe my boyfriend with a lunch date or something he will accompany me. I don't know what it is about grocery stores that he doesn't like, he is the same way about malls too. He says all the people makes him bunchy. LOL I just tell him to suck it up and enjoy spending time with me!
I think it's cute you print out a picture for your hubby sometimes! My mom would always joke that she was going to do that for my Dad after he came home from a quick run to the grocery store and came back with the wrong items most of the time. At least he went though with no complaints. My boyfriend needs to learn by example!

your hubby sounds like he follows the list mine no way .
If i send him out , or i take him with he turns into one of the kids.
I end up with more crap in the cart that what i am suppose to have.
I always ask what this or why are you gitting this.
I'ts always we need it , or i have not had this in so long.
SO no i leave him home i have enough problems watching what
what the kids throw in there , let alone what the big kid throws in there lol.

That is so funny how some hubby's can be just like kids!!
Unfortunately, I am the kid if my hubby takes me along. I don't go that often so when I do go I see all these neat things that I've never seen before and I end up throwing them in the cart. Then I wonder why the grocery bill is so high!!
I need to stay at home where I belong!

Hi Char,
My husband and I are doing it every two weeks..He will not go if I will not accompany! LOL!
He is the chef most of the time so, I will let him decide what yo get like 80% of what we are buying but I am also the one who will remind sometimes that we need to stick with our budget!

well i usually do the grocery shopping for my family. i enjoy grocery shopping so i volunteer to take up the task. it's really fun shopping for groceries as i can buy so many different things and yet the final bill doesn't scare the hell out of me. before i head out, i'll ask if there are anything we need. then i'll go with my partner as he is the muscles. most times i'll bring a list along so that i don't forget something. however, i will always return with more than what's on the list. cheers ;p

hey Char,
I tend to do the shopping as I work in a supermarket so its easier to do it in small bits when we need them rather than spending my day off in a supermarket doing on big shop and having to struggle with the bags on the bus home!!
If we do need to do a big shop, I get my boyfriend to come with me as then we can pick stuff we both like rather than what I like. He does like most things but sometimes supermarkets brings out new things that he might want to try.
I also do abit of shopping for his dad and brother as we get weekly leaflets of whats on offer, I take them load of leaflets to look at and they end up with a shopping list. Sometimes they want loads, other times thy dont want a lot or anything!!
Glad you have a system when it comes to shopping, I normally write a list and always end up forgetting it so I have to try and remember what was on it!!

Hi,
Thanks for your response!
It would be much easier to do a little at a time, but also it's good to do it just just once a week and not have to worry about it the rest of the week. I can see your point about taking the groceries home on the bus. That would be pain!

I do all the grocery shopping by myself, and I put them all up by myself. My hubby don't do any of that, he says thats something I can do while he's at work during the day, which I don't mind, I'd rather grocery shop by myself anyway.

Hi Char, it's quite flexible between us. Most of the time we do the shopping together, sometimes I'd do it alone.
I find it's better if we do it together, as he can decide and buy whatever he wish to eat for that week. And while he's doing that, I've time to look for other stuff. I tend to miss out some things when I shop alone (even though I have a list).
And he can do all the trolley pushing, grocery carrying. I'll just put the groceries away (he's always at a loss as to where to put what!)and the clearing up.

My husband and i usually go every thursday night to do the grocery shopping together. Neither of us really enjoy it and see it as a chore. However, we have come to look forward to the trips because we now have dinner in the food court, and then go shopping, and maybe get a donut or milkshake afterwards as a treat. Then we go home and unpack and put away the groceries together. Sometimes if my husband does not have time, i will go shopping by myself. And sometimes it can be quite peaceful just to go around the shop by myself, as i find i am not in a hurry, and can find the new items for sale. It's great that you help your husband by printing out the label of the item you want. With you putting away the groceries when he gets home it seems like a real team effort. Well done:)
