DO YOU THINK IT IS NECCESSARY? to be afraid of a pitt bull?

I was watching the news yesterday and I saw a story on a woman who continued to call animal control on her neighbors because of their pit bulls running around lose. Now I do agree that they should all have collars and be kept inside or behind a fence and only walked on a leash. But one "witness" said they saw their neighbor outside weed eating and one of the pitt bulls starting running up to him so the neighbor put the weed eater to the pitt pups nose. IS THAT NECESSARY PEOPLE? and when the news reporter asked the man, "What do you think would have happened had you not had that weed eater for protection." And the old man replied with, "Well I would have got bit or eaten up" Um, well considering we are not talking about a grizzly on the loose, the most that would have happened is the dog would have jumped on you to try and get you to play. Pitt bulls have such a horrible name for them selves and with proper care a training they can be the best dogs out there. They are extremely play ful all the time, and at night when you turn the lights off they hop in the bed and cuddle like little saps. And not to mention they are the best animals to protect your family and your home. I am tired of seeing people talk about being afraid of pitts, Pitts can have a high level of agression and most dog fighter pitts are beat and made to be agressive. And if a family does not take care of their pitt bull and it has been beat then those are the dogs to be afraid of but it does not mean it cant be trained and re-loved and let into your home, this is why no apartments allow pitts and why no one wants a pitt unless they want to look bad and cool or they beat it or drop it off because they dont spend time enough to play and train with it like a pitt needs. My dog is half pitt and sometimes she can get to us and be too mouthy and we just put her in her place and tell her NO and shes a loving sweet girl again, I am just tired of not being able to walk her without people shying away like they are scared. AND THE PITTS ON THE NEWS NEVER EVEN ATTACKED ANY OF THE NEIGHBORS! they probably arent getting fed and just wanted food and people freak out instead of helping. ugh! is it neccessary?

I don't think it is necessary to be scared just because it is a pit bull. I think you should have a respectfull fear of any dog really. Pit bulls have a bad reputation and I have known many that were kind and not mean at all. They are beautiful animals, and as with any animal, should be respected.

Unfortunately, all of the good owners and their dogs are forced to be the ambassadors for the breed, no thanks to the bad owners. In the 70s, it was German Shepherds, in the 80s it was Dobies, in the 90s it was Rotties and now Pitties have become the scapegoats for the new millenium. Who knows what breed will generate the next madness. And in the meantime, Chihuahuas are still biting ankles, Poodles still nip at fingers, Labs are hecka territorial of their people and so on. Pits are generally (generally) only animal aggressive, not people aggressive. And don't forget, there are a lot of dogs identified as pits by the news when there's a dog attack, and many aren't pits at all.

This is not necessary. It makes me so upset. I have a loving friendly pitbull that wouldn't hurt a fly. I have had people make remarks about him and like why would you get a horrible mean dog like that. It makes me so sad to hear people say things like this about my baby. That is sick what the person did to the pitt pup. ugh it makes me so mad!! people think they are horrible when they are really not. you know what i'm talking about. God people should read up on things before saying it. It makes them look dumb and me really mad. They are so mean!!

im not scare of litle dogs.one thing i found is litte dogs that bark at you will bite you only if you turn your back on them.there cowards like that.so im a big guy i have now problem handling a little dog.ok .now a bit are not violent dogs like people think.but because alot of bad people raise them to be violnet we see it to be more likely.if its tamed and people friendly its just like any other dog.but if not understand this, that out of any dog out there a pit dog has the potential to kill you.lock jaws

I also think it's quite ridiculous that people get so worked up over pit bulls, when they're no more dangerous than any other breed of dog. As with any breed, how they behave depends in large part on how they are raised and treated by their owners. That being said, pit bulls tend to be very energetic dogs, so they do need to be exercised quite frequently if they are going to stay fit and happy. When that doesn't happen, they do tend to get somewhat out of control. Again, however, it all goes back to the responsibility (or lack thereof) of the owner.
