I have some beautiful Phloxx as a border by my front deck. They are healthy and blloom every year. The problem is the leaves each year get this white like coating on them. It is almost like bird droppings but it isn't. It wipes off easily by rubbing it. It is not growing in the leaves but just there. It is almost chalky looking. It doesn't seem to hurt the plants. It also doesn't appear on other flowers/plants in my yard. Does anyone have any idea as to that this could be? It is on most every leaf of my phloxx. Thanks in advance all. Here is a photo of one leaf I picked off this morning showing the white chalky stuff.HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I'm pretty sure it's a type of mold - looks very much like what I've had on the sides of a couple of our raised beds in the garden. I just knock it off and it doesn't seem to bother anything. You might try spraying with a mixture of water and dish soap - won't hurt the plants but also helps to deter some insects that like to eat leaves.

So why is it on these leafs but not on any plants right beside them etc then? That's what confuses me the most. Thanks also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

LOL - the mold doesn't like the neighboring plants :) Seriously some plants are more resistant to molds as well as different insects.

Can't tell exactly from your pictures, but it looks like a powdery mildew infection. I've got a lilac that gets it every year, and I've given up trying to treat it. It's a fungal infection.

I have read a few years back that it is some form of parasite that survives on plant leaves.
